Corn Rows of Time
by Tristan_warlock

Reaching without finding
things out that gouge the mind
Leaving scars across a barren soul
like a child leaving footprints
in the snows across a virgin field
and as I walk the dead corn rows of time
counting my steps into the future
alone among the stubs of september's
work on long days riding shotgun
watching wheels turn
I understood more than I ever have
Dreaming, picking up scattered marbles
in the dead corn rows of time
pushing away dirt to see
cat's eyes peering up through time
or perfume bottle holding scents of old
I wonder, looking at the glass, how
something could be so smoothed over in the dirt
which year after year after year
is plowed up to plant anew
burying treasures of old autumn days
resurrecting treasures of a new generation
walking the corn rows of time
