Luke's Corner

Well Dave came along a few months ago and said he was going to do Dave's corner for the website. What a good idea I thought, and a few weeks later I thought I should do it too. But then I thought rather than doing Dave's corner too, I would do Luke's corner instead, because doing the same thing twice would be pointless. Finally, many months later I actually got around to doing it. So here it is, Luke's Corner. A place that I will use to talk about faveourite things such as music, movies and wrestling.

Misfits at Corner Hotel Richmond

Me and my girlfriend Cassie with Jerry Only of the Misfits

What a cool night last night was. After years of waiting I finally got to see one of the greatest punk bands of all time, The Misfits. Sure, in many ways it wasn't really the Misfits, as Jerry Only is the only original memeber left, but this was still a very special occasion. In many ways it didn't feel like I was watching the Misfits, it was more like watching an all star punk-legends band playing classic old school punk tunes from the Misfits and Black Flag. For those unaware, the other 2 members of the Misfits at this point in time are Dez and Robo who were both in Black Flag, Robo was also in Misfits for a while in the old days. Watching these 3 punk legends play these classic tracks was something special. They played a great selection of old Misfits songs (including personal faves such as Skulls and Hollywood Babylon), newer Misfits songs (from Ameriacn Psycho and Famous Monsters) and some Black Flag songs (Rise Above, Six Pack, etc). While I thought the actual sound mix could have been better, the Misfits played these song with such energy and passion that no one could have walked away disapointed. To make things even better, Jerry Only hung around to meet fans, sign things and take photos. I was lucky enough to get my Famous Monsters CD signed, get a photo with Jerry along with my girlfrend Cassie, and also have a brief chat with him (he asked me about the CKY jumper I was wearing and we talked about some other stuff). Jerry was such a nice guy and so good to all the fans that hung around to meet him. I can't wait for next time.

Land of the Dead

Land of the Dead came out in Australia on DVD this week and I for one am very excited. When it arrived in Australian cinemas earlier this year, this film was attacked by critics who claimed it was outdated and a complete waste of time. These critics are fools. They are idiots. THIS FILM ROCKS!!!!! While talking to people in the video shop who have an interest in the horror genre, I was dissapointed to hear how many of them had decided not to see this film because of the bad reviews it had recieved. These critics make my blood boil. This film was sooooooooo good and it sucks to think that such a kickarse horror film was unable to achieve greater box office results and reach a larger audience that it deserved, becaues a few critics didn't appreciate such a fine piece of horror from the master George Romero. Anyway if you missed it at the cinema and you like a good zombie film, make sure you check it out on DVD. I won't write a review about it as there are so many other good ones already on the Internet. I will just say I thought this film had great characters, a great story, great effects and it kept me enganged the whole time. It is a fantastic entry into Romero's Dead series that takes the series to the next level. I give it 5 out of 5.
