December 31st... and clearly 2010 was a poor year for species counting. Global warming, global cooling, rough seas, no fish in Rossmere, not enough water in the Ribble, no boat at Shell Island, ice on the canal in winter and only searching for monsters in the Mediterranean. A year where Neil didn't really need his Prince Albert licence and caught all his fish over one weekend. No Rainbow Wrasse or Two Banded Sea Bream from the end of the harbour, no Sand Smelt from Shell, no Barbel, no Bluefish or Derbio crashing from the water, few Tope and not one single Ruffe or Dace. But still, the sight of Turquoise and Gold in the water made it all worthwhile...

Remember this...

November 21st - Adlington Canal... and I had to come all the way back from Spain just to show you how to catch these...more

October 23rd - Morfa Nefyn... weather looks to have varied this week from summer highs to winter lows. With Mackerel, Bass, Wrasse, Whiting, Cod and Doggies so does the fishing...more

October 1st to 3rd - Sitges... trolling proved more productive than ever before with many more of these Dorado and Tuna...more

August 5th - Sitges... you've all heard of bars of silver. Here's a block of gold...more

August 28th - Sitges... and today we probably discovered who was biting lures off last week. Same as last time, the trolling rod bent right over, line was screaming off the reel. This time though we had him. For tea...more

August 8th - Sitges... trolling is still proving productive with a couple more of these small Tuna this morning...

August 7th - Sitges... water temperature must be reaching a peak soon given that these fish are now in...more

July 31st - Sitges... and as the sea was nice and calm this morning I took a leisurely troll out to the 10 mile mark where I picked up a couple of these along the way. Although they aren't the biggest Tuna ever I did see fish much, much bigger out there...more

June 6th - Shell Island... and although I had three of these torpedos getting them in the Zodiac one your own is a bit easier said than done...more

july 9th - Hindley Square Pit is my premier venue for UK course species. Was close to a full house and I think I only missed a Tench ...more

June 12th - Anglesey... where, aboard "My Way", Dad caught fish "His Way". So, during that long drive back home, which three anglers now wished they'd booked a longer fishing trip out than three hours...?

June 6th - Sitges... has had some really un-summer like weather recently. Thankfully it didn't put off the fishing though....more

May 31st - Bank Holiday Monday at Rossmere... increased this years fish count, this time with this nice, golden coloured Tench. Still no Ruffe but with a days fishing nearly as good as Steve Cruise who cares...more

May 24th - Rossmere... lived up to it's reputation as a banker for new species with far too many new fish for Dad and Mark today. Still, without Tench and Ruffe, it could've been worse...more

April 26th - River Ribble... and fishing in the closed season saw Dad and Mark catching some small fish on the fly. If only they'd taken their fish ID book...!more

April 26th - Hindley Square Pit... got a repeat visit today, this time by Mark. Although he managed this Rudd there were no Crucians to report and he obviously the wrong bait...more

April 18th - Abersoch and Hindley Square Pit - 2 venues and 4 species for John this weekend...more

Late March - Sitges... Easter holidays have always been a great opportunity for nudging up the species count. No change this year...more

March 5th - River Dean... is a cracking little river but nevertheless it is possible to blank there. Here's how it's done...more

February 27th - Sitges... is warming up nicely now. We've had a great week weather wise and although I only managed a few hours out this afternoon was into fish from the off. Although I caught the usual species I'm sure something else passed me by...more

February 21st - Sitges... saw a break from the winds today and out at sea all was calm. Except for the fishing...more

February 14th - Abersoch... has a pub, which after catching more than one 4 inch micro Whiting, is about the best place to spend the rest of the day...more

February 6th - River Ribble... proved to be not the best choice of venues to start Marks season. There's only one river to fish in winter and it's no where near Preston...more

February 7th - Sitges... weather was just about perfect yesterday and although we caught nothing new did enjoy a nice day out. About right that it's back to the seasonal norm with heavy rain today.

January 31st - Sitges is often windy at this time of year. It wasn't windy sat on the back of the boat though...more

January 29th - River Dean... has always been a great venue. Today it was even better as it produced the first UK caught fish since last September, this nice Brown Trout...more

January 17th - Sitges... weather was rubbish today but the sea was real calm and in the deep water that we ventured out to managed to bring up this new species...more

January 3rd - First boat trip... this year and it started off well. Five species for the day, one of them totally new for us...more

January 1st - In Sitges... it was blowing a gale today. There was still somewhere to do a bit of fishing though...more
