01. The On The Line All-Stars
On The Line
Cutesy slice of perfect pop. Catchy chorus, pretty lyrics and star performers guesting. All together now, ‘On the Line, for your loooooove… la la la..’ you’ll be singin it for weeks!
02. *NSYNCThat
Girl (Will
Never Be Mine)
Punchy, action packed Jive Records produced spectacular from the *NSYNC boys. This one’s on the British alb. We’ve been listening to it for ages – and hey – he gets the girl in the end, doesn’t he??
03. Trickside - Under
You
Despite the dubious connotations of the title, this song would probably be the one that ended up on the summer’s big teen high school rom-com. Catchy, singlalonga, wouldn’t be out of place on American Pie.
04. BBMak - Don't
Look Down
Yaaaaay!! The Hometown Boys! (I’m from Liverpool) The ‘Mak once again score with this pretty little guitar based ditty. Real drums, emotive vocal, three chords. And so on.
05. Al Green - Let's
Stay Together
06. Britney Spears - Let
Me Be
Slow paced, sexy mutterings from the princess of pop herself. It does lack the Britney Big Band vocal we so oft’ hear from Ms Spears, but I don’t think it needs it. A winner!
07. *NSYNC - Falling
Written by the lovely Mr Chris Kirkpatrick, this lovely rockaballad is somewhat reminiscent of Bryan Adams (see the ‘Run to Me’ style intro) and was, for me, one of the highlights of the PopOdyssey Tour. Simple lyrics, beautiful arrangement. A gem!
08. Vitamin C - Do
You C What I C?
I feel like I know this but I don’t quite know where from. Bizarre track with what can only be described as a ‘Christmas Disco’ feel. Its ok. A bit too Europop for me though.
09. Joey Fatone - Ready
To Fall
Waheeeey!!! Joey sings!! And he does well too! This Richard Marx penned ballad suits Fatone down to the ground, he gets a chance to show off his tonsils, and good on him! He won’t quite have Justin Timberlake quaking all the way to the Job Centre, but the boy done good!
10. Jessica Folker - To
Be Able To Love
11. Melissa Lefton - My
Hit Song
This song practically writes its own review. Listen to the lyrics, you’ll see what I mean. All culminates in a big ol singalonga chorus, with no doubt, suitable dance routine attached. Not about Lurrrve. At All. She’s on Jive too. I think this song got lost on its way to the ‘Almost Famous’ auditions. Funky enough though.
12. Robyn - Say
You'll Walk The Distance
Bit of an 80s vibe on this. You listen to it feeling like ‘ok, its gonna get going now and it doesn’t. Rolls along quite prettily though, warbling about Destiny and suchlike.
13. Richie Sambora - Take
Me On
Yes!! This is what I’m talking about! Screeching gee-tars, husky vocals, crashing cymbals. Sounds a bit like the song that Jon Bon and the boys did for ED:TV. But Yeah!! Richie Rocks!!! (I’m doing air guitar now. I am!)
14. Blaque -Can't
Trust Myself
Good, solid female harmonies, done Destiny’s stylee. Softly sung words
reminiscent of Michael Jackson or Bobby Brown circa 1989/90 ish.
15. Meredith Edwards -
Ready
To Fall
Lance’s protégé gets a chance to air her vocal chords on the film’s big ballad. Edwards is no stranger to the writings of Richard Marx (he produced her alb) and it shows. Her Country voice perfectly complements the simple arrangement of acoustic guitar, drums and violin. I’m not what you’d call the world’s biggest Country fan, but Yee-hah, this girl can sing!
