Dear Editor:
According to a study recently released by the Justice Department, more than 30,000 people were charged with federal drug offenses; 91 percent of those convictions were for trafficking. Meanwhile total drug violations have continued to climb. Justice statistics, found only 4 percent of drug criminals were convicted of simple possession. Ninety-one percent were convicted of trafficking, which carry a stiffer sentence. It also found drug offenders are serving longer sentences. The average prison stay rose to 5 1/2 years in 1999 up from 2 1/2 years in 1986.
Considering the above facts and the impact it has on the community; throwing people away is not the solution. Also, we see repeat offenders are continuously rising year after year as a result of non-rehabilitative solutions.
Agape Love Corner has created an alternative to non-rehabilitative solutions to respond to this alarming rise in repeat offenders. This simple solution is what we call our Triangle program.
