White Rose

With a grin I step close,
Just like in the movies.
The long stem held in my teeth,
I pass a single white rose to you.

Laughing, you take it from me.
Those around us look on amused.
Dinner arrives and you smile,
Lay down your rose and eat.

Later you inspect my gift.
Twirling the stem,
You inhale the scent.
You smile at me.

The movie begins.
Almost forgotten,
It dangles from your fingers
As you watch the show.

Home again.
Just in the door,
White petals brush my cheek
And your smile draws me closer.

Home again.
Calling my name.
Your body arches
To the touch of a perfect white rose.
