EFFECTIVE HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEES

The role of an effective Health and Safety Committee is all encompassing. The problem is that many Health and Safety Committees are ineffective because the members think of it more as a social club, rather than the powerful, accountable and responsible organization that it should be. This is simply caused by a lack of understanding of the duties, functions and powers of the committee and it's members. Another challenge is that most company's and committees don't even know where to begin.

This program concentrates on the following:

What is a Health and Safety Committee?
Duties of H&S members
What is a certified member and what are their duties
Powers of the committee and it's members
When must a committee be in force
Structure and size of the committee
Management and Worker representation
Confidentiality
Reporting structure and procedure
Frequency of meetings
Entitlement of pay
Conducting effective and efficient safety walk throughs
Duties and powers of the inspector (M.O.L. or OSHA)
Work Refusal situations
Bi-lateral and Uni-lateral Work Stoppages
Getting things done
