Que1: Version[s]: 2002 / 2003
1.) Open ICQ.
2.) Click the "Main" button on your ICQ Window.
3.) Click on "Preferences form the pop-up menu and select "Miscelaneous" from the menu.
4.) Clear (uncheck) where it says "Show the Welcome to ICQ screen when launching ICQ".
5.) Click "Apply".

3.) Click on "Connections" from the Preferences menu, then the "General" tab.

There are seperate procedures depending on your type of access to the internet. Choose the procedure appropriate to your internet connection.
Modem Dial-up
1.) Open ICQ
2.) Click on the "Main" button on your ICQ Main Window.
3.) Click on "Preferences" from the pop-up menu and select "Connections" from the Preferences menu.
4.) Click on the "General" tab.
5.) Disable (Uncheck) "Automatically activate Standby Mode upon disconnection from the Internet".
Permanent: Cable, Lan, etc.
1.) Open ICQ
2.) Click on the "Main" button on your ICQ Main Window.
3.) Click on "Preferences" from the pop-up menu and select "Connections" from the Preferences menu.
4.) Click on the "General" tab.
5.) Enable the "Modem {dial-up connection}" setting.
Note: You will be unable to disable Standby Mode unless you temporarily switch to dial-up.
6.) Disable (Uncheck) "Automatically activate Standby Mode upon disconnection from the Internet".
7.) Re-enable Permanent (Lan, Cable Modem, etc.)
8.) Click "Apply"

Yes. This ICQ supported feature is disabled by default and only a registry edit can enable it. You can opt to edit the registry manually or use a utility program that will do the edit for you. Registry edits should be considered for the advanced computer user. Always make a backup of your registry before making changes.

You can manually edit the registry via the following procedure:
1) Click on "Start" then "Run" from the pop-up menu. The Run window will appear and within it a text field. Type "regedit" (without the quotes) into the text field. Click "Ok"
2.) Click on the + sign beside the folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3.) Click on the + sign beside the folder: Software
4.) Click on the + sign beside the folder: Mirabilis
5.) Click on the + sign beside the folder: ICQ
6.) Click on the Folder: DefaultPrefs
7.) Click on "Edit" -> then "New" from the pop-up menu -> then "String Value" from the sub menu.
8.) You will see a new value called "New Value #1" in the name column. Rename this value: MultiInstance
9.) Dbbl click on "MultiInstance"
10.) In the Value Data text window enter: Yes
11.) Click "Ok".
12.) Exit The registry.

3.) Click on "Preferences form the pop-up menu and select "Alerts and Notifications" from the side menu.
4.) Enable the settting "Blink all types of Incoming Messages on Contact List in system tray".
5.) Click "Apply".
