Zeus
Hometown: Hogan’s terrible No Hold Barred movie
Height: ???
Weight: ???
Finisher: AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! punches . [he would stand in front of his opponent, scream really loud and slam both hands into their should blades]
Career:
What career? It lasted all of about six months and that was six months too long. He is the only wrestler to wrestle in nothing but main events, but not win a match in his entire career.
We all know that Zeus was the evil villain in Hulk Hogan’s movie No Hold Barred in 1989. Hogan had just finished a feud with Randy Savage that was fantastic, and next up was a real life feud with Zeus. I guess Hogan was bored wrestling people with talent and actually having good matches for the first time in his career. No better way to change that around then getting involved with Zeus.
The one thing Zeus could do well is looked messed up. He had the greatest psycho eyes in the history of wrestling. He is also the only wrestler to shave his entire head except for his initials on either side. Although since he spent about his entire career getting pinned by Hogan, it often looked like an N rather then a Z.
He first appeared on Saturday Night’s Main Event in May 1989. Hulk Hogan was just about to wrestle the Big Bossman in cage match for the world title. Suddenly though, before Hogan could get in the match he meets up with Zeus right outside it at ringside. They stare at each other, and then Zeus floors Hogan after unleashing the AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! punches on him. Zeus then left. Of course Hogan came back to win the match, managing to ruin all of Zeus’s credibility in about three minutes.
Randy Savage was on the Brother Love Show a few weeks later setting up a tag team match for the main event at SummerSlam. It was going to be Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake against Randy Savage and Zeus. Of course they needed to set it up a little more, so in July 1989 Randy Savage wrestled Brutus Beefcake on Saturday Night’s Main Event. During the match Zeus ended up making his way to ringside, and got involved when Beefcake had his sleeper locked in on Savage. This is when it gets really exciting, Zeus then unleashed his NEW move, a bearhug. I guess he was just so proud of learning such a difficult move he couldn’t hold off using it until SummerSlam. Suddenly Hogan comes to the rescue though, with a steel chair. He nailed Zeus in the back, but it didn’t even hurt him. This was a big deal too, since in 1989, a hardcore match in the WWF would be the heel grabbing a chair to use and the ref taking it away before he got the chance. Hardly ever were people actually hit with the chairs, and Zeus wasn’t even staggered. We had to know he was tough though, since he had one huge eyebrow, a Z on either side of his head and couldn’t look straight. Hardcore!
Finally we have are big day, SummerSlam 1989. The match ended up with Savage wrestling most of it. After awhile though, he would tag in Zeus, let everyone see how much he sucks, and then tag himself back in so he looks even better to the crowd. Match ended up with Zeus getting nail by Hogan with Sherri’s loaded purse, getting bodyslamed and legdropped for the win.
It’s not over there though. Hogan had actually found someone was looked worse in the ring then he did, and this feud was going to drag out. So we jump ahead to Survivor Series 1989, where it was The Hulkamaniacs [Hogan, Roberts, Demolitions] against The Million Dollar Team [Dibiase, Zeus, Powers Of Pain] Zeus was gone after about two minutes. He choked out Hogan and ended up shoving the ref when he tried to stop it to gain himself a disqualification. At least Zeus saved face, right? At least Zeus hurt Hogan bad, making himself out to be tough and ready for revenge on Hogan, right? This will set up a rematch with at least a little sense, right? Nope. Hogan stuck around for about twenty minutes longer and of course won the match. We still get are rematch though.
It’s a steel cage. It’s Hogan and Beefcake against Savage and Zeus. It’s No Holds Barred! Heat counts as a hold in this case as well I guess, since there was none of that either. This was actually it’s own Pay-Per-View. First you paid your money, then you watched the movie No Holds Barred, then you watched the match No Holds Barred, then you cried for spending your money in it. The match ends up with Hogan and Zeus alone in the cage. Hogan rams Zeus into the cage a few times, bodyslam, leg drop, victory for Hogan. Thankfully that was the end of Zeus.
They called him “The Human Wrecking Machine” although I think “The Match Wrecking Machine” might have fit a little better since he turned everything he was involved in while in the WWF into crap.
