Skinner

Hometown: Florida Everglades

Height: ???

Weight: ???

Finisher: Gator Breaker

Career:

Skinner, or as Gorilla Monsoon called him, The Alligator Man. Or as all us fans know him, The Legend.

The first thing you notice about Skinner is his wrestling tights, or I guess wrestling rags is a better term for them. He wrestled in rip flannel shirts, some sort of stained pants and some nasty looking boots. There was also his hat that looked like something out of Crocodile Dundee. Only difference was it was so beat up it looked like he pulled it out of a dumpster somewhere. We can’t forget his claw either. Although it didn’t really look like any animal I know. Just looked like a thing. Sort of like the third piece of chicken in a dinner at KFC. Always chewed on tobacco well. Although I doubt he chewed it for long since he had about ten pounds of it in his beard all the time.

He first debuted around the end of summer in 1991, and went right after Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. He talked about how he was going to skin the dragon like he skinned alligators. Trouble was as soon as Ricky knew he had to wrestle Skinner he left the WWF for WCW. Normally no one has a good reason to leave the WWF for WCW, but having to feud with Skinner is one of the reasons on that short list.

He wrestled on Col.Mustafa’s team at the 1991 Survivor Series. Yeah, he was on Col. Mustafa’s team and wasn’t even the captain. The team was against Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter, Texas Tornado and El Matador and didn’t even eliminate one member of the time. He wasn’t even the last remaining member of his team!

Trivia Moment: Who were the original team members in the Survivor Series match between Hacksaw’s and Col.Mustafa’s team? It was Hacksaw Jim Duggan/Texas Tornado/Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat/Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart against Col.Mustafa/Skinner/Berzerker/Big Bully Busick. There was a chance made that to match about every week leading up to the event.

Six days later he somehow managed to get an IC title match at This Tuesday In Texas. This is what Bret Hart is complaining about all the time, wanting wrestling to go back to the way it use to be. He must have forgotten that year ago, he was wrestling… SKINNER!

He was in the 1992 Royal Rumble where the winner won the WWF Championship. The match had 29 men that could win the WWF title, and Skinner.

Skinner actually wrestled at a WrestleMania as well. He wrestled, and lost to, Owen Hart at WrestleMania 8. It was the second last match on the card, just before Hulk Hogan’s big match against Sid. So Skinner’s match was just a chance for all the little Hulksters to go be bored enough to go buy some more Hulk Hogan crap to wave around when the Hulkster came out. Can never have too many big yellow foam hands. The match was about three minutes, and included Owen kicking out of Skinner’s finisher, the Gator Breaker. I’m guessing either Skinner named it himself, or Monsoon really didn’t care about the gimmick enough to put much effort into naming the move. Like I said though, it’ short. You blink and you missed it…. lucky you.

Skinner was kept off pay-per-view after that. The Ultimate Warrior returned to the WWF at WrestleMania 8 though, and his return match was on WWF Superstars against Skinner. Match was actually longer then Skinner’s WrestleMania match.

He made his final appearance in the WWF at all at the 1993 Royal Rumble. He showed up and was thrown out after doing basically nothing. Gorilla Monsoon put it best when he was eliminated. ”There’s one long shot you wont have to worry about!” Luckily, and unknowingly, Monsoon meant for ever.
