It is tradition to fast before performing the rite. Start by enjoying a ritual salt water bath - to cleanse the soul. After dress in a long white robe, acorn necklace, and an oak leaf crown.
Cast a 9 foot circle. Put 13 black and orange candles inside and around the circle. When lighting each say:
"Samhain candle fire so bright
Concentrate this circle of light"
In the center of the circle erect an north facing altar with 3 white candles (for the triple goddess), chalice with apple cider, herb incense, a bell, apple, and an athame. And say:
"Hearken well ye elements
Air Fire Water Earth
By bell and blade I call forth you
On this sacred night of mirth
Light the incense and the white candles. And say:
Three candles of sacred light
I do light in honor of you goddess
One for the maiden mother and crone
Goddess of all the things wild and free
Strong and loving, fair and just
This sacred temple I raise to you
In perfect love and trust"
Dip the blade into the chalice and say:
"I offer to goddess
This nectar of the season"
Pick up the chalice -two hands- and put a few drops of cider on the apple and say:
"Blessed Be the souls of those
Who have journeyed beyond
To the dark world of the dead
I pour this nectar
In honor of their memory
May the gods bless them
With light, beauty, and joy
Blessed Be!
Blessed Be!"
Drink the cider, ring the bell 3 times and uncast the circle by putting out
the candles from east to west.
Take the apple and bury it outside to nourish the souls who have died in the past year.
The ritual is complete
This is the ideal time to scry or meditate etc...
