HOW TO MAKE A TOOTH CHART

*I am using Ulead PhotoImpact for this tutorial. But you can accomplish this in PhotoShop as well, with nearly the same instructions*

Here are some examples of what you can make:

Tooth Chart Materials

1. Create a new image: White background; Width: 312 x Height: 332

2. Open the air brushed and white tooth pictures.

3. Apply a background image of your choice to your white canvas. (Open image and drag to your white canvas)

4. Select white teeth with pick tool and move to center of main image.

5. Repeat step 4 using the pink the teeth. Placing it over the white teeth.

6. Make sure your white and pink teeth are aligned ontop of each other so that pink is on top and white is matching up underneath.

7. Open your image of your child that you wish to use, and erase the background/body from around them, so that only the head is left. It helps to zoom in to about 200 or 300% for the erasing step. Close ups or headshots are best for this type of image.

8. Use your move/pick tool to select your childs image and drag it to the center of your chart image.

9. Use your transform or resize tool to shrink the image to best fit your chart. Holding SHIFT while drag with the mouse will ensure your image will not be distorted while resizing.

Be sure to make your head small enough that you can write what you wish on your image still

10. Add name or text to your image. Use any font, size, style you wish.

11. Select your pink teeth layer and carefully erase which tooth you wish to mark. Use diff size brushes or zoom in if need be.

12. Add text for the date and arrows if desired.

13. **IMPORTANT** Save your images as either .png, .psd, or .ufo (depends on the program you use). This will enable you to edit it as a new tooth comes in! :)

Be certain to select the PINK teeth layer when you wish to edit your pic. Otherwise nothing will happen when you try to erase the pink part of the tooth!

14. Now you may save your image as gif or jpeg (your preference) to upload and share on your computer!

**OPTIONAL** You are more than welcome to gussy up your pic by adding borders or other effects.

PhotoImpact has some really neat presets you can try! My favorite lately seems to be "ADD FRAME".

To get to these tasks open your Quick Command Panel and click the TASK tab. Use the drop down menu to select something to try and click the PLAY button. Watch it work its magic! :) You can also undo certain aspects of a task if you don't want the rest to happen. Just click the box so the check mark goes away and then click play.

Have fun with this! And if you get stuck or have questions please feel free to email me or find me on Yahoo Messenger (groovysmurf).
