HOW TO USE A MASK TO CREATE IMAGES AS CLIPART

This tutorial was done using Ulead PhotoImpact. I am not sure, if you can use photoshop to do the same effect, as I have never looked.

1. Open the image you wish to use.
2. If you wish to change the color of your mask you may do so by clicking FILE > PREFERENCES > GENERAL

3. Click the MASK icon, this will make your image the color you chose through your preferences (or the default color if not)

4. Select your paintbrush tool. Use the color WHITE to uncover the image you wish to keep, leave the rest alone. If you uncovered too much, change the color to BLACK and paint over that, it will put the mask back.

Change your brush size as needed. I find I wind up going back and forth from White and Black to get my image just right.

5. Click the mask icon again, it should make a dotted blue line appear around what you wish to keep. Should you need to adjust just put the mask back on and alter till your happy with your image.

6. Right click on the picture and select CONVERT TO OBJECT

7. Click and drag your image outside the frame so that it will open it in a NEW image.

And your done! You can add a colored background or make it transparent at this point. Doing this mode helps the image have smoother lines and a faint white line will not appear around the image when on a dark background.

As always if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
