Transcript of the Interview with Brian and Cory on Edge 102's "Live in Toronto" with George Stroumboulopoulos

"WALKABOUT"

George:  Edge 102, there's  "Walkabout", it's DDT on Live in Toronto from the album "Urban Observer".    The guys are in town tonight, and Brian and Cory are here.  Gentlemen, welcome to the show.
Cory: Thanks for having us back.
Brian: How you doing?
G: Good, man, things are good with you.  Been busy, eh?
C: Holy!
B: We've been on the road for a long time, and we're going to keep going.  It's awesome.
C: We forget what day it is, what the date is, where we are...
B: It's nice to be doing it...
C: It's excellent.
B: because you're working, and not because of other reasons, we're not digging ditches, that's for sure.
G No, that's cool man.  So last time I saw you, when you came to town, you played at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern, it was a great show, it was really aggressive, and you know for the Horseshoe and the other bands on the bill, I thought well these guys were really coming out of the blocks.  Now you're on the road not just with the Powerman 5000/Kid Rock Tour, but with Sevendust, you're, you know, playing shows where you have to step up the aggression.
Brian You know, we're digging deep, you know that's one of the characteristics in the band, and we just pull that out and assault the crowd, and it's like full on.
Cory The better part is like this whole Kid Rock thing has been the best thing for us, cause it's like a real party crowd, and, you know, we're totally like all about that.  So much power.
G Oh yeah, DDT is a powerhouse
Cory It's a party sound.
G We're talking about the album "Urban Observer" which we've had for some time, I think it came out in April, right?
B/C Yeah.
G And how the title of the album is perfect for the songs because track by track it really seems as if the band are urban observers, you know, for what's going on the city.  My favourite song we're going to play in just a bit is "Blue Hair Crime".
B Oh yeah?
G There probably won't be a lot of that going on at the show tonight, as far as the older crowd, cause the kids are really responding to your record.
B Yeah, so far so good.   We just two nights ago we played a show in Auburn Hills in Detroit for 18,000 people and it's our biggest show yet and it was amazing, the crowd was so loud it was louder than the music. It was awesome, unbelievable.
C And you're playing the Palace, which like he said, 18,000 people, it's Detroit, so they're really into that kind of show.
B  Well either they like you, and if they don't like you, god help you.
C Yeah, we felt a little threatened when we walked in we thought, you know, Detroit, we were all warned about, you know, how they could get a little aggressive if they turn on you, run!
G That's right, it's Kid Rock's home town.
C/B Yeah.
C But we were accepted, like, with open arms.
C/B It was great.
B  It was awesome.
G Man that's so cool. How's the Kid Rock tour been going?
C Naked girls what?  Naked girls what? (Laughing)
G No, not at the Palace, eh?
B We've been reliving, let's just say that we kinda missed the 80s with this band.  They're back.  And bigger than ever!
C And this time they're pissed off!
B You wake up and realize, oh my god, we're a hair band all of a sudden, all the perks.
C It's so fun, though.
B  Well, it's the perks of the hair band minus the pretentiousness.
G That's right, you know, and perks in other areas.  Has Kid been cool, have you talked to Bob Ritchie at all?
B/C Oh yeah.
B I met his whole family last time, and they're awesome, absolutely awesome people, like down to earth, totally cool.
G How about Powerman?
C Great, they're excellent guys.
B We went to a hockey game went and saw the Blackhawks/Anaheim in Chicago with the guys, and they're hockey fans so we hit it off instantly, so it was cool.
G Oh that's awesome.  So when you  thought of this, 1992, when you started this band out in Vancouver, (to Cory) you came right in the middle of it, you were a radio guy.
C That's right.
G There's still hope for me daddy.
B  Is there?
G There's still hope for me (laughing), and now you're on the road.   What's next after Toronto?
B Well, we do, what, 6 more shows with Kid Rock and we end up actually in New York, and then we hook on Megadeth and Static X.
G Static X record is amazing, "Wisconsin Death Trip", the Megadeth record, there's a Megadeth record, and you'll hear more of it actually on Over The Edge which comes up on Saturday night at 2 in the morning.  So, you know, you're really latching on with bands like this, now, which is no surprise because the Lars connection, right?
B Yeah, it helps, and you know what, let's bring it on.  He's there.  You know, we all refer to him as the daddy of the band.
G Lars Ulrich of Metallica.
B Whenever he has good news he goes, "Who's your daddy?"  So I know it's good.
C Papa Lars.
G So, signed to that label, a lot of times you get a band signed to a label and then the person that really worked to sign you disappears, you never see them again. Where, I guess the people you're signed with, they're actually being a little bit more hands on.
C Lars' partner Tim is on the road with us right now, he's been on the road for like the last week.
B He's travelling with us, our travel partner, and Lars is coming to New York to hang out with us.
C Talk to him on the phone like every second day anyway.
B I phone him to bug him about San Jose losing all the time.
C We had a good bet with him actually, that was it, he gets Bob's butt (laughing).
B We've got this new song that we want to put out before, not for the next record, put out in the meantime, cause it's a really good song, and I bet on it, I said you put this song out, put money behind it, and if I lose, you can have Bob's butt, our drummer  (laughing) it's worth it.
G Great.  You guys are on the Hitman Hart cd, right?
B That's right
G And how did that come to be?
C The song "Lie Detector".  We were actually asked to do a video with Bret, but we didn't have time to do it, or we haven't had time so far.  It may still happen at some point, who knows?
B Good Canadian boy.
C Yeah, it's a whole Canadian thing, and we were like, yeah, we're behind that, that's cool.
G Cool, keeping it at home.  Cory and Brian here from the band DDT, they're playing tonight.  You're going on stage...
B 7:30
G 7:30.  Excellent.  So this is DDT, "Blue Hair Crime", Live in Toronto, on Edge 102.

"BLUE HAIR CRIME"

G New Rock, Edge 102, "Blue Hair Crime" and DDT, playing tonight at the Warehouse, probably going on stage in a couple of seconds or so.  We thank the guys for joining us.
