About Us
Our old vet who wasn't too experienced with rabbits said that we are probably born in about January of 1996. Our un-official birthday is January 11. Our momma declared that our birthday. The family that we live with now has only had us for about two years(since the summer of 1998). It took us a long time to get here! Assuming we were born on January 11, 1996, that we are both from the same litter, and that we were bred by a breeder, this is our life story.
We have had FIVE "mothers"! Our first mother was the one who gave birth to us. We don't know her, but we hope that she is happy and not squished up in a little hutch where all she gets to do is eat, go to the potty, and have babies. Our next "mother" was the breeder or the human whose bunny gave birth to us. After a short time we were handed over to a new family. We will just call them "family 1". We only lived with them for about a year. When we lived there, Cloudy's name was "Winston", and Magic's name was "Skeeter"! Sadly, the family didn't want us anymore. It really makes us feel bad that they didn't want us. After all, what's not to love? We don't know why they didn't want us anymore. People need to understand that animals have feelings too, and that pets are commitments. After family 1 came family 2. They were a very nice family. They are the ones who named us Cloudy and Magic. Cloudy was named after the book "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs". It's a really good book. Family 2 really loved us a lot, but one of the family members got sick, so the family moved far away. They said they couldn't take us with them, but we saw them summer 1999 because they came to visit. Mommy says that you can take bunnies with you when you move, but it's pretty hectic and can be scary for the bunnies. After living with family 2 for a year, we were passed on to family 3. Our momma had wanted bunnies for a long time... since before we were even born! She knew all about how to take care of bunnies and all about rabbits. Mommy was friends with family 2, and they just gave us to her. We were very sad to leave family 2, but we really like our new family.
We moved in with family 3 in the summer of 1998. We have gone through several name changes, but in the end our names were kept as Cloudy and Magic. We did get our very own last name though. Our momma thought of it all by herself: Tinwick. Momma has worked to litter train us and help keep us happy and healthy. Now we get to eat lots of different kinds of foods like lettuce, carrots, radishes, and dandelions, and we get to eat treats like strawberries, apples, and raisins. But the best part is that we get to be house bunnies! We love to roam the house. We get to explore for hours at a time, watch TV, play with the hoomans, and other fun stuff. We have a pen where we're kept when the hoomans aren't there. It's really roomy and nice there, so don't worry!
When we first moved into the house that we live in now, we weren't the only animals there. Family 3 had a CAT. Her name was Tabba. Tabba never hurt us (though she did bop Cloudy on the head once... Momma had a fit!). Tabba died on January 2, 1999, and she saved all of our lives. Our momma made a nice web page about her that you can view here. Tabba even won an award for saving all of us!
Here is one of the only pictures we have of Tabba. It is kinda funny because she's so close to the camera!
A few months after Tabba died, momma got a new cat named Cecily Parsley. Tabba and Cecily Parsley were both named after animals in Beatrix Potter books. Cecily Parsley is declawed in her front paws. That means that her front claws aren't there anymore, so she can't scratch us. Our family didn't declaw her, she was declawed when they got her. Our family thinks declawing is cruel. We sure would hate to be declawed!
Actually, we live with four cats (we have only ever talked about Cecily Parsley and Tabba because they belonged to our momma and were the only ones we came into contact with). Their names are Cecily Parsley, Norman, Piffle (actually her name is Princess Pitty Pat, but nobody ever calls her that), and Clawdia. We've seen them around once in a while. Norman and Piffle are afraid of us ('cause we're such tough bunns!), but Clawdia... she's just mean. We also live with a hamster, Herman. We've seen him roll past us in his ball a few times. Other than that, he just sorta keeps to himself. Apparnatly, hamsters aren't really social like rabbits (although some rabbits aren't). Maybe we'll get some pictures of them up here sometime.
We never fight with each other. Nevermind... today August 20, 1999, momma caught us fighting. We're good bunnies. We have been best friends forever, and we love each other a lot. If one of us is scared (or both of us), we cuddle up close. We cuddle up even when we aren't scared! Cloudy used to pull Magic's fur out sometimes if he mounted him, but since we've been neutered, we haven't done that too much at all! Momma says spaying and neutering is a really good idea. I guess she'd know, because she knows a lot about rabbits!
When our momma first tried to litter train us, we wouldn't cooperate! Cloudy always slept in his litter box after kicking out all of the litter, and Magic's habits just weren't consistent! Sometimes he'd be good, and sometimes he wouldn't. Then we got a litter box in the house. Momma put it in a "bunny barn" which was just a remodeled cardboard box. Magic started using it and he showed Cloudy! We both just taught each other, so now our habits in the house are pretty good. Usually at night we're not very good though because it's kinda scary. If the radio is on though, it helps us stay calm.
