Butterfly Cocoon

-"How does one become a butterfly?" she asked pensively.
- "You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar."

~Trina Paulus, Hope For the Flowers ~

Welcome to my Cocoon! Never has this metaphor seemed more apt to describe the state of my life: coming to college and leaving behind both the comforts and constraints of my old life has given me a very real opportunity to face myself and begin understanding who I am and how to find the potential for Flight within myself.

"The greatest thing is this:
To be able, at any moment
to sacrifice what you are
for what you could become."

~Unknown~

This time in my life is a period of sacrifice - sacrifice of old ideas, old beliefs, old attitudes, old patterns of thought in order to improve myself... after all, the journey toward betterment and perfection constitutes life's meaning. For me, self-discovery lies in words, and so I'm striving to fill this place with the language of one person trying to make sense of her world and find truth amid the experiences and emotions of everyday existence. Enjoy your visit here, take away from it what touches you, and return as often as you wish. Any comments or questions? Sign my guestbook or email me! College students love email not pertaining to classes. :)
Love to you always,
Katie Rose

"...We're all writing [stories] everyday with our lives, whether or not we ever pick up a pen. These days are pages, these years chapters. A plot emerges which is sometimes lost, often revised. Characters come and go, the people that I have known, the limited cast of humans that one life can bear. Some I betray, some I love. Some I admire, some I pity. Some I teach, some teach me. Some I lust after, some are naked and I hope to clothe them..."
