Sludge and Solids Handling Equipment
The range of Brain pumps are designed for pumping and handling sludges, slurries and solids which are normally considered impossible with conventional pumping systems. The sludge and solids handling equipment range has been proven in the most arduous conditions showing their reliability and strength where other equipment has failed. Applications for the systems are :
PD6x6 Sludge & Solids Pump
The PD6x6 is a portable compressed air driven unit for the recovery and pressure discharge of sludges and slurries containing solids up to 110mm in size. This system is normally used where long discharge distances and high production rates are required.

PD4x4 Sludge & Solids Pump
The PD4x4 is a portable compressed air driven unit for the recovery and pressure discharge of sludges and slurries containing solids up to 75mm in size.

Air requirements 17 M3/min (600cfm) @ 7 Bar (100psi)
Vacuum - 0.85 Bar (25" Hg)
Pressure discharge - 7 Bar (100psi)
Vertical suction lift - 21 metres (69ft).

Vertical discharge head - 25 metres (82ft).
Horizontal discharge run - 1500 metres (4920ft).
Typical production rate - 10-20 M3 / hr.
Vac Pack & Collection Tank.
Is an ideal system for the insertion and removal of all types of products. The photographs show the system emptying filter media from a rapid gravity filter bed and discharging the media using the collection tank.
The production rate over this short distance was 10 to 15 cubic metres per hour and enabled the beds to be emptied within one working day.
Due to its physical size, the Vac Pack And Tank can be situated in the most inaccessible areas on site and set up within minutes.
The system can be used for a number of applications such as conveyor belt cleaning or loading 45 gallon drums.
The system is capable of conveying solids and sludges upto 75m from the collection tank using 4" or 3" suction hose.

Summary
The PD6x6 and PD4x4 sludge and solids air driven pumps, have been designed to handle all types of sludges and solids for a number of different applications and industries.
The Brain venturi system allows high air flow and velocity within the suction hose to convey the solids or liquids in slug form into the pump. This system is more efficient than conventional vacuum conveying which is limited to 9m lifts.
Due to the pumps design there are no internal moving parts or seals (unlike centrifugal, impellor or vane pumps) and therefore the pump cannot be damaged by sucking in air or taking solids upto two thirds the diameter of the suction inlet.
How it works
The pump creates a continuous airflow for an adjustable period of time between 0 and 3 minutes, which allows the operator to air covey the material up into the pump. Once the time has elapsed the pump changes to pressure discharge cycle for 0 to 3 minutes and blows the material from the vessel. The pump then returns to suction and continues to run automatically. The operator can change the pump to manual operation if required.
