All proceeds of the event will be donated to The Dorough Lupus Foundation for allocation to various organizations for lupus research and for financial assistance to individuals living with Lupus who cannot otherwise afford treatment.
The walk/road race will be at Cranes Roost Park, in Altamonte Springs, FL on April 1, 2001. Registration will begin at 6:00am with the Road Race to start at 7:30 followed by the 2K Kiddie Trot and 5K Walk. We are asking that all pre-registration forms be sent to the committee with a money order or check in the amount you wish to pledge made payable to "The Dorough Lupus Foundation", no later than March 15, 2001. After March 15, 2001 late registration apply. Please mail forms along with payment to: Step for the Cure 2001 150-D Springwood Circle, Longwood, FL 32750 Attn: Rachelle L'argent. Forms may be received by e-mailing stepforthecure@hotmail.com and requesting race information.
The 2K Kiddie Trot will be open to all children from 2 to 10 years of age. Pre-registration is $10.00 with the late registration being $15.00. This event is designed primarily as a fun event, but the Trot will be two fold. It will promote the value of fitness and give children the opportunity to give back to the community. Ribbons and Certificates of Achievement will be issued to each child entered in the Trot. We will be awarding prizes to the top three children who obtain the most pledges.
The 5k Walk/Road Race is open people of all ages and is designed to promote not only public awareness about lupus but walking as an alternative lifestyle. Pre-registration is $25.00 with late registration being $35.00. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 walkers with the highest pledges.
We will be offering a group discount. The discount for pre-registration is $60.00 per every 3 Walkers/Runners. Late registration being $90.00 for every 3 that registers.
If you wish to pledge a minimum pledge of $50.00 is required. The pre-registration and late registration fees will be waived. All pledge monies have to be to "The Dorough Lupus Foundation" no later than 5/01/01. Minimum pledge of $50.00 due day of event.
If you are an out of town participant we have a travel package deal through Dream Cruises and Tours.
XL106.7 will be out to pass out promotional materials. As well as there are celebrity appearances tentatively scheduled.
This event will open many avenues to those in society that know little or nothing about the causes and effects of lupus. Together we can only have a positive impact in the fight against lupus. We also hope to put "The Dorough Foundation" on the map with its commitment and caring to help those who cannot help themselves.
