STAR TREK: THE CAPTAIN'S TABLE
There are six books in this range covering all of the Star Trek series including Pike and the New Frontier. They are all set in a bar called The Captain's Table where stories of Captain's are exchanged for drinks. Only Captain's are allowed into this bar and can be accesssed from all over the univese. They are written by various authors and cost about £5 each.
STAR TREK: THE CAPTAIN'S TABLE: BOOK ONE: WAR DRAGONS
This book is written by L. A. Graf. It is about Captain Sulu and Captain Kirk and their crews from TOS.
It is about when they encounter a new species of lizard like animals, where the females are dominant.
The main part of the book covers when a group of run-away males decide to attack a neighbouring planet. Sulu goes in search of thier homeworld while Kirk attempts to stop the males from attacking.
War Dragons is gripping and I couln't put it down. If you like The Original Series you'll love this book. Even if you don't I'm sure you'll still enjoy it.
STAR TREK: THE CAPTAIN'S TABLE: BOOK TWO: DUJONIAN'S HOARD
This book is written by Michael Jan Friedman. It follows Captain Picard and Lieutenant Wolf on a secret mission to find Richard Brant who has supposedly been kidnapped. They leave the Enterprise and become crew members on another ship also looking for Brant as he knows where Dujonian's Hoard is. The ending is somewhat unexpected and there is enough action through the book to keep you interested. Although I prefer The Original Series and Voyger, I still enjoyed reading this book.
STAR TREK: THE CAPTAIN'S TABLE: BOOK THREE: THE MIST
This book is written by Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch. It is a tale 'told by' Benjamin Sisko. The plot covers a phased univese which the Defiant is lured into in an attempt to get Deep Space Nine into this 'universe'. The basic story line is good but the repititon of 'Old Man' instead of saying Dax did come to annoy me, and the changing of scene is very frequent, meaning you may loose track of where you're up to, but overall it is quite good. It hasn't been my favourite from The Captain's Table series but was still readable.
STAR TREK: THECAPTAIN'S TABLE: BOOK FOUR: FIRE SHIP
This book is written by Diane Carey. It follows Captain Janeway and her escape from a life pod. She thinks Voyger has been blown up and attempts to start a new life when she has been rescued. She informs them of the risk of a species which is on their way to destroy them, but fails many times. It follows her attempts of gaining trust and of her adjusting to her new life and shows Janeway's determination well. Although there is not much referece to being actually in the Captain's Table, it makes the plot easier to follow. The ending is, once again slightly unexpected but it is a gripping book, which I could not put down.
STAR TREK: THE CAPTAIN'S TABLE: BOOK FIVE: ONCE BURNED
This book is written by Peter David. It is a New Frontier book, which are new to me. It tell you about the life and career of Captain Calhoun. It's main focus though is on when he is assigned as first officer on the USS Grissom. When the Captain's brother and daughter are murdered, the Captain slowly goes insane. It follows Calhoun's attempts o trying to get others to realise this but is instead charged of munity. In this book, Calhoun tells what happened during that mission. This is a new chatacter to me, but I still enjoyed the book. Just because it's differnt doesn't mean it's not as good as the series you're familiar with. I was not sure at first, but I though it was a great read.
STAR TREK: THE CAPTAIN'S TABLE: BOOK SIX: WHERE SEA MEETS SKY
This book is written by Jerry Oltion. It is a Star Trek the Original Series book but is about Captain Pike. This book is about 'whale' type creatures in space who are causing trouble in another star system. It follows the attempts of Captain Pike to find a solution to the problem, but this leads them into danger as well. This book is quite different as you find out more about the first Captain of the Enterprise and Spock was on board. This is a good read, and enjoyable.
