"One Fine Day in Mexico"
As I walked down the gangway
onto the Mexican dock
I realized I had seen this all once before
and to me it was no shock.
Have you ever been chased by a Mexican hombre
Trying to hustle you into his shop?
Have you ever tried to communicate in Spanish,
when you hadn't done it before
and realized when all you could say was "cerveza"
that your Spanish speaking skills were really poor?
Have you gazed into the clear and sparkling Caribbean
taking in all the warm shades of blue?
Or snorkeled in it with a rainbow array of tropical fish
And concluded that of all your dreams in life
this is one of the few?
Have you closed your eyes and prayed for your life
in the back of a Mexican taxicab?
Boy those hombres' driving skills
are sometimes kinda bad!
If there's one thing I learned in Cozumel-
it's NEVER walk in the street
You might just get hit!
Don't expect cars and buses to stop for you
if you're lucky they'll blow their horn
Consider yourself forewarned!
But then my day in Mexico had to end
And as I walked back up the gangway
I thought of all the postcards I needed to send.
That night aboard the ship was FUN!
I entered the dining room and was serenaded
by a Mexican band!
Then a head waiter danced with Baked Alaska on his head
Imagine my surprise when he came to me and took my hand!
I danced the macarena with the waiters
around the entire dining room twice
I felt like an idiot while doing it
But all things considered it really was nice.
The next day I got to go back to Mexico
But there wasn't a lot to do
in the Port of Progreso.
We went to Mérida city instead
I saw lots of historical stuff
Have you ever had a shopkeeper mess with your head?
I toured the city with an amigo named Mario-
All the people there were as short as me!
Oh now I didn't feel as little
as a honey bee!
Our time in Mexico was limited that day.
"Goodbye" I found difficult to say.
We set sail on our way back home.
Oh, how I wish my vacation didn't have to end.
As I looked up brighter and brighter the moon shone.
Then I realized who I missed--my pals, my friends!
Adiós, Méjico.
