Famous for its numerous archaeological remains; in particular the inscriptions found in its heights.
It is well known for its ancient monasteries; specially the convents of St. Shallitah and St. Antonios Hoob.
It is located at 75 km from Beirut and an altitude between ( 900m and 2500m ).

Tannourine cedar forest are located on Jabal Mar Moroune and Jabal es Sair between the villages Hadeth ej Joube and Tannourine et Tahta.
They encompass about 200 hectares of forest of which only 85 hectares can be called closed.
