According to The Bipolar Child, it may be dangerous to treat children with antidepressants or stimulants used to treat ADHD without first ruling out bipolar disorder. Both antidepressants and stimulants can trigger bipolar cycling. I recommend any parent concerned about a child's depression read this book.
