I scanned in the calligraphy in greyscale and colored it with Photoshop. Photoshop is simply wonderful in rendering multiple layered image. I used lighting effect and emboss filters to create the 3D illusion. Besides that I played around with many types of layer blend to further effect the emboss and bevels.
