The Falls of Richmond
"The Falls of Richmond" is another fiddle tune by Ruthie Dornfeld,
also from the Mel Bay fiddle tune book.
I did this one in a kind of folk-rock arrangement, inspired by the
styles of Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention from the 60s ... so there is
a fiddle and electric guitar trading leads, plus rhythm guitar, bass, pad,
and drums.
NOTE: this sequence uses stretched pitch-bend ranges, because I
like the cool slides on the pedal steel and fretless bass. This is
officially Kosher, according to the minimum General MIDI spec, BUT the very
common SoundBlaster16 cards do not respond to the MIDI messages to widen
pitch-bend range beyond plus-or-minus 2 semitones. Hence the sequence will
sound off-tune (i.e., an intended slide up a fifth will only go up a second)
on SB16s and clones of same.
FURTHER: the sequence resets to default power-up pitch-bend at the
end. So if you don't want to play it through, skip to the last measure and
play it through to the end.
