Yoshi's Story
Unlimited Continues Trick
Want to be on the same page if you lose all your Yoshis? When you lose your last life and Yoshi is being taken away, simply hit reset. You can now start the game again from the page you died on. Note that this will only work on the US version, as the Japanese game doesn't have a save game feature.
Break Bubbles without Eggs
To break bubbles without using eggs, just run into them several times.
Rotate pop-up Stages:
To get a better look at the stage select pop-up displays, you can turn them slightly with the C-buttons and zoom in and out with R and Z.
Glitch
Go to any level where you can find either an egg for the black or white Yoshi. Once you have collected it, go to an egg box and keep hitting it until it stops spitting out eggs. Collect them all and hit the box again. Because you have the black or white egg, it will spit out one egg to many for you to carry. If you pick it up, you gain one and loose an older one.
White Shyguy Locations
Having trouble, here`s some locations of the White Shyguy bunch:
1-1: Get to the second part with Poochy.Go straight on the first two splits in the roads.Go up on the third one.Shoot the "?" ball and Shyguy will pop out.
1-2: Go the second part and find 4 white and blue moving platforms.The "?" box there hides the shyguy.
1-3: Get to the third part and shoot the flying "?" ball.Shyguy will pop out.
1-4: Get to the top of the building and get the umbrella.Float down on the right of the building.Find the cannon that shoots straight up with 2 blue blocks underneath destroy`em and walk in to find a third blue block holding the White Shyguy.
2-1: Get to the second area and fall down past the "?" balls.Hit the blue blocks to the right and get to the other side of them.Get on top of the three blocks near them but not touching them.Hit the very bottom one and a Shyguy will pop out.
2-2:After the second ball ride.Go in the blue tunnel.There should be a red "?" ball floating in the sky.It will hold the White Shyguy.
2-3: Look for Poochy and sniff in his spot,when yoshi waves his hands,pound the ground to reveal Blue and white platforms climb up them to find a tunnel. Look for 3 blue blocks on the right gaurding a heart,one of the blocks will hold The white shy-guy.
2-4: Look for a sign that points off the screen,there should be a blue box.Walk off the screen and Yoshi will come out of a pipe.Hit the red "?"ball on the right to reveal a "!" ball.Use your tongue to get on it and jump over the wall.Hit the next "?" to find the shyguy.
3-1: Ride the big green Dragon until you find a "!" switch,hit it to reveal clouds,go up the clouds to find a tunnel,go in to find warp#3,4 eggs,a switch card,and a "?" ball. The "?" ball will have the shyguy.
3-2:Look for a banana and a melon,seperated with a platform.The melon should be near a Turbo Tulip and go to the far right with your back against the wall.Eat the tulip and launch yourself up to the first section by pressing the "B" button when your Yoshi will change back and you can hit the "?" ball and the shyguy will pop out
3-3: In the section with warp#3.Go straight to the bottom pot.Go to the first big blue "?" box,and smash it to release the white shyguy.
3-4: Go to the second part and go to the boomerang birds.Jump over the pit and look for blue blocks.Shyguys in one of them.
5-3: After your pass the cloud's raining rain you will see a ? mark not too far away to the right. Pop the bubble and he's yours.
Getting Hard to Reach Items
The following trick allows you to grab items that are hard to reach. You will notice that occasionally when you are on a platform that can be jumped onto from beneath, there will be an item below you that you can't reach. To get that item, try using your tongue. You can't just hold down and stick out your tongue though. You need to stick your tongue straight out, then quickly move the control pad down, and you will swing your tongue down after the item. This will not always, but usually, allow you to grab the item that is beneath you.
Change Shy Guy's Suit to Different Color's
Find a Shy Guy, (Any Color) then do a Pound (By Jumping in The Air and Pressing down). Now you will see that the Shy Guy is A different Color. Keep doing that and he will Change More Colors.
Secret Message From Yoshi
At the end of every mini-game, if you earn 6 melons or enough to get a Heart Fruit, eat the Heart Fruit to make a letter appear (it happens in every level). If you put all the letters in order by the stages you will get a message... It says "YOU ARE YOSHIS GREAT FRIEND" it's not really a trick but it's one of the biggest secrets in the game!
Instant Death
Here's a way to instantly kill your Yoshi (we don't know why you'd want to, but perhaps if you get stuck somewhere). Press the Z, L, A and B buttons at the same time and your Yoshi should die no matter how many health petals he has.
Make Yoshi Spin Around
To do this glitch you can be anywhere but you must be standing still on the ground.
1. Press and hold Z to make the egg throwing target appear. Place the target to the above Yoshi and to the rioght of him.
2. Move the target to the left so it moves over ands across Yoshi. Notice how he turns around after it crosses him.
3. Move the target back over to the right and over Yoshi. Before Yoshi has turned himself completely around, move it back to the left. When Yoshi starts to turn to the left, stop the target before Yoshi completes the turn.
4. If you did it right Yoshi is spinning around.
Keep White and Black Yoshis
If you get any of the black or white Yoshis (you can only have one of each), and beat the game, when the book flips to the last page, it shows the black or white Yoshi in addition to the rest of the Yoshis. Also now, whenever you start a new story, you start off the with the black and white Yoshi. (Both of these only work if the Black and White Yoshis are alive when you beat the game.
Resurrect Yoshi
Find a white Shy Guy in a level and get him. Complete the level and go to the character select screen for the next level. Select the Shy Guy and he'll resurrect one of your dead Yoshis.
Choose Yoshi's color in Practice mode
Go to Trial mode choose any course. Now pick the Yoshi you want. Now Press start and then press Start and Z aht the same time. Push B and Go to practice mode you and you have the that color Yoshi.
Tricks of the Trade
Free Melons and other Items - (1) Look around for 2 big,blue "?" blocks.Push them together to make a melon appear. (2) In the first level in the first course on the second part. Free Poochy, Go with him, everywhere he stops, sniff, Yoshi should get the smell and wave his hands in the air, stomp there for a a prize and then follow him again.
Black and White Yoshi - When you have the black and white Yoshi your egg's fireworks are much bigger. Also when they are Super Happy (incvincible), the have a faster and more improved flying jump. Its easy to advance in heigth with it rather than fall.
Pounding The Signs Glitch - Go to level 6-2. Get five melons, or any amount of melons so that the next one you eat makes a heart fruit appear. Get the key and go through the keyhole door. Make you way to the right some and get the melon in the ?-mark bubble. Eat the heart that comes down, and let one of the black shy guys drop his spike ball. All of the bubbles on the screen will pop as if you pounded the ground.
Get to High Places Faster - Most people think the "flutter jump" makes you fall slower, but it can actually make you go higher if you can do it almost perfect. This takes some practice but will help you alot. It is much easier to do if you are Super Happy (invincible).
Shy Guy Trick - When you do a ground pound near a Shy Guy when your super happy(when you eat a heart fruit) the Shy Guy will turn into the lucky fruit.
Pound The Signs - Punding the ground in the middle of arrow signs releases up to 2 coins in most areas.(not common for signs pointing <- that way)
Pounding Coins - Pounding and area that has ONE single coin above usually has a Melon hidden underneath. To reach it just pund the area underneath.
White Yoshi Locations
(3-2) - Here's how to find the white Yoshi in Page 3-2 (Tall Tower): Proceed to the first leaf and the message block that introduces it. Drop down to find Miss Warp (2) and a message about a big egg. As you climb the platforms back up, drop to the left and pop the "?" bubble. Grab the white egg, and finish the stage.
(3-3) - On Page 3 Area 3 starting from Miss Warp 3 go right. When the road splits with a vase at each end, go in the upper vase. Then go right and enter the upper vase. You should see a dog and a red/orange pipe south of you. Go right and go into the first red/orange pipe to enter a hidden cave. Go right and throw an egg at the bubble. You will now receive a large white egg. Eat the remaining fruit on the level and on the next page and you will be able to choose the White Yoshi.
Black Yoshi Locations
(2-1) - To find the black Yoshi in page 2, level 1, find the tulip that turns you into an egg and shoot yourself up. You will land on a platform with a bubble -- pop it and you get the black Yoshi egg. You will be able to select Black Yoshi once you finish the level. Note that you can only have ONE Black Yoshi at the time.
(2-2) - Go to Go to Bone Dragons Dungeon in Story mode (page 2, board 2.) Go almost all of the way through the level to the tulips. Go to the tulip to the left of Miss Warp #4. Stand in front of the tulip and eat it. Fire yourself upward and break out of the egg near the ceiling. Pop the "?" bubble and grab the Soccer-Ball like egg then falls out. Now complete the rest of the level as you usually would. When you go to the Character Select Screen, you'll be able to select Black Yoshi.
(2-3) - Go to Page 2-3. Go through the level until you find a Help Box that tells you about a "big egg." From there, go to the left and jump on the last floating rock, then jump on the one above that, and shoot the "?" bubble with an egg. You will receive the black egg. Beat the level and you have the black Yoshi. Note that you can only have one black Yoshi at the time.
(4-2) - Go to the #4 Torrential Maze on Page 2. When you start, keep heading upward through several rooms until you get to a room that has ghost vines coming from the ceiling that you can barely see from the ground. Jump from vine to vine, if you're fast enough, you'll come to an edge with a floating bubble. Pop the bubble and grab the large egg that looks like a soccer-ball. Finish the level as usual by collecting fruit. When you turn to the next page, a black yoshi will be with the other six.
This Yoshi likes to eat everything, and he gets three hearts for eating any fruit or shy-guy. His eggs also make a larger explosion than the regular ones.
