Experience in kayak design and building

I have designed and built 2 different cedarstrip / fiberglass / epoxy sea kayaks,
based on Inuit designs, principles of modern kayak construction and my own personal
 needs.

The first one, although very fast, proved to be too long for running rapids
(18 feet), not stable enough for photography and was not practical for portaging.

The second one is perfectly suited for the Kayak Canada 99 expedition. It is shorter  (16.5 feet), relatively stable, fast and it can be maneuvered in rapids. In addition,
I can carry all my gear in one large dry bag, which can be stashed through the cockpit,
right behind my removable seat. This facilitates unloading at portages and campsites
and eliminates the need for hatches. I can adjust the seat position to balance the kayak.

The great advantage of this system is that it be used with the knu-pac. This is a dry bag mounted on a fully adjustable frame which makes single carries possible, even with a heavy load, because the weight is carried by your hips, and not your shoulders. In order for this system to wirk with a kayak, all you have to do is clamp a thwart across the cockpit (available with the knupac). So, there are no more excuses: kayaker can now explore any inland route. Portages are no longer impossible obstacles.
