The OC Issues

The OC. I used to watch it, saw the whole first season, but I just kept getting frustrated at how they wrote the show in the latter episodes. They would create a conflict at the start of the show, which of course has to happen to make any show interesting, but the way that the characters inconsistently responded to the conflicts and to the other characters seemed so fixed and out of character just in order to make the conflicts worse. No one had any common sense. For a while Marissa was with this new guy Oliver and she kept denying that she was spending too much time with him, despite the fact that she clearly was, or that he was in love with her, despite the fact that he clearly was. All the while he's obviously playing her into his hand by walking her to class or asking her on a weekend getaway, but of course everyone is too slow to notice. OK fine, this adds some drama to the show. But when Oliver is finally discovered to be a fraud, then a day or two later Marrisa starts making out with Ryan and tells him that she wants it to be like it used to be. Ryan then turns her down, despite how he jumped through hoops and almost got kicked out of school in order for him to get her back. Then when Ryan does something stupid, Marissa gets mad at him and then he wants her back. It was very frustrating to watch and no one on the show had any common sense, because that would resolve conflicts, and the writers didn't like doing that too much. So that was my beef with the writing of the show. But another thing seemed so obvious: half the scenes they showed would start with scantily clad female extras walking in front of the camera. It seemed so obvious and got to the point where it was painful and embarassing to watch the dirty and direct selling techniques they used to sell the show. Sex sells of course, but at least do it in moderation or inconspicuously.

Bah! In response to this display of incompetent writing and out-of-this-world-obvious selling of female bodies, I am writing my own show where there is no conflict and everyone thinks straight. The plot like will follow these ugly kids that don't do well in school because their teachers don't like ugly kids. Everyone can relate. That's sort of a conflict already, but I'll resolve it and that'll be the season finale.. and the season premier. Hmm. OK so there will be no such show, but in conclusion, The OC sucks.
