"Taste of the Danforth" - Danforth and Logan
Toronto, 06/08/99
The "Taste of the Danforth" kicked off on Friday, August 6th, 1999 and
Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails were on hand to provide some raucous tunes
for the munching masses. The major draw for most on the Danforth that
evening was the food, but for those who were there for the music alone or
those who just had the good sense to stop by and listen, the gig was
typical Nails - it pulled you in, held on tight and coerced the rocking
souls to worship.
The pace of the evening was set up perfectly by the opener "Be My
Alibi". The following songs of suffering and pain just rocked on from
there....And suffering and pain never sounded so good! The lyrics of silver
tongued devil Ron and the music of the
tight-as-though-they're-nailed-together band of Lawrence, Blitz, Chris,
Mark and Jason prodded the crowd from stuffed lethargy to true enthusiasm.
Even the aliens were dancing, apparently a step up from the giant dancing
peanut at an earlier gig that evening. (If I attempted to explain it just
wouldn't do justice....)
The evening flew by on a mix of old and new music combined: Taboo,
Pokeface, Suffer Me, Suffering in Mink, Crack Static, Small Victories (Ron
alone....), Partners in Crime and Convenient to name just a few... It was
the second gig of the evening for the Nails and, impressively, it lacked no
energy. The show truly rocked. If you've never had a chance to see the guys
live, you're missing out! This is an experience unequaled and you haven't
truly lived until you've celebrated suffering and pain at a break-neck pace
with Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails...........

Chris....Thanks also to Ron for the poster - it's on my wall in a special
place of worship, or something like that.... Can't wait to see you play
live again!]
