Show Report: The Hudson, Hamilton

Acoustic Revue show

Ron came back to Hamilton for another Acoustic Revue show. The show itself featured Ron on guitar and vocals; Lawrence on vocals, harmonica and melodica; Julie Penner on violin; and Alex Macmaster on cello.

The new management at the Hudson had a couple changes to the usual show. First, there was an opening act (which for some reason was a Christian rock band?). Second, the pool hall downstairs now features a VERY loud D.J., which made the songs sound like dance mixes. Not ideal for an acoustic set (although we did get to see Lawrence's "Night at the Roxbury" impression!).

Hilights of the show:
- some of the less-frequently heard songs, such as St. Valentine's Day Massacre, Airports of the World, and Left & Leaving (with lawrence on vocals) were played
- news that the guys are going into the studio soon to finish up Turpentine for a future release
- the cello really adds to some of the songs

Overall, the 90 min. set was great, but maybe a little short to cover a lot of favorite material. Hopefully next time the guys will get a little more time to play and somebody will tell the disco downstairs to keep it down too!
