Show Report: The Hudson, Hamilton

The "Everything He Ever Wrote Acoustic Revue" Tour



Last show I saw on the acoustic tour was a short trip in my hometown of Hamilton, home of the 'smog-dome' as Ron put it! The Hudson was as full as I've ever seen it. I had to work much later than anticipated, but still made it in time, and even got seats for myself and Crystal (thanks a million to Sarah, Linda and Tanya!). The good news was that nobody was turned away at the door, so everyone who made the trip got to witness a hell of a show!
Ron, Lawrence and Julie all made the trip. A new week of shows ushered in some changes to the setlist, with the additions being:
- Airports of the World
- Hey Valerie (which I haven't heard since Ron's solo days!)
- Waitin' On My New Heart
- For The Hand Of Magdalena
- Subversives
- Letter From Bilbao
- First Addiction
- Kinda the Lonely One (I think it was played, but then again a LOT was played in the 2 & a half hours!)
Of course, some songs were cut from the set to make room, but my memory just isn't that good!
My hilights of the show:
- Ron continued his February tradition of playing "Airports of the World". Why do we only get to hear it once a year? Sorry, just being greedy!
- just before the show started, I commented that I'd like to hear "Letter From Bilbao". I don't believe I've ever heard it live before. Second song into the set, there it was!
- finally got to see Lawrence play guitar and sing "First Addiction", even though it broke one of Ron's strings in the process. And Ron's harmony wasn't too shabby, either!
- underestimating some of the Hamilton crowd's love of James Taylor, Ron let it be known his hatred for Mr. Taylor's music. In Ron's defence, his brief snippet of "Fire and Rain" was way better than the original..
- my third show in one week, free admission, and in town to boot! I dare not ask for more!
Now, here's hoping the next review I post here is a full-fledged, all-out Ron Hawkins and the Rusty Nails show!
