VolksWorld Show '99

Sandown Racing Course 27/28th March

This is the first real National show of the year and there where quit a few new projects unvailed new for 1999. Sadly the pictures aren't up to much because we where really late getting there and Matt had to dash about with the camera while we wandered around and had a good poke about.

We set of from London around two on the Sunday expecting a relaxed nip round the M25 with the ragtop open on this Sunny afternoon. Sadly within about the first 30 miles, the engine chugged down to nothing with a heat seize. The deck lid was duely opened to cool the hot engine. No fear, after a quick cigeratte on the hard shoulder we got things rolling again.

It was the first time we had the car running at speed since the recondition so we gently rolled further round the outskirts of London trying to keep it in a good mood. But no! Not another hour nearer Sandown it goes and does it again. Even with the usual routine, the bloody thing would not tick over.

We persevered with it and managed to keep the car running by tickiling the carb. We eventually arrived at about four and as soon as we locked the car we realised we'd left the keys in the ignition. Oops!! We hadn't shut the ragtop properly so we managed to get an arm in to open a door and retrieve it without too much panic!

As soon as we got through the gate we bumped into someone we knew (shout to Lesley and Sean). We then beat a hasty path to the bar. At the bar we met up with Andy and Carol and started looking around the show with just an hour before closing. Helen of course still managed to pick a few precious spare parts before the dealers packed up.

A little later we met with Caroline and the rest our Beetle club who had made it. Pretty soon we where all piling back into the cars and made for a convoy back home, a load of traffic put pay to the idea but we did all get together again for the run up to our turnoff making a splendid site for the other road users around us. Four beatifully turned out shining little VW Bugs all in a line.
