It was after noon by the time Alyssa finally woke up. As she stirred around, trying to go back to sleep she realized that sleep was possibly the last thing she needed. She swiped at her nightstand trying to find the clock and gasped as she was the red numbers glowing 1:07pm at her.
She sat up and looked down at her crinkled clothes, wishing that she had had enough commons sense to at least get changed. Groggily, she stumbled out of bed, down the long hallway and into the bathroom. She gasped again when she was her dischevel features, pale skin and ratty hair. She fumbled around for a brush and ran it through her hair several times.
She then pulled it back into a very messy bun and scrubbed her face, hoping that the cold water would not only make her face feel less greasy but would wake her up as well. She wandered abck into her room and grabbed some clothes from her dresser. As she pulled on some faded jeans and tight tank top she wondered if anybody was even home.
Alyssa went downstairs and wasn't suprised to find the house eerily quiet. Not a sound was to be heard. Alyssa continued on into the kitchen and grabbed a particularly red and plump apple from the basket. She bit into the apple and looked around for a sign that her family still existed.
"Good morning, you sleepyhead, you!" a deep male voice came from behind her.
Alyssa jumped around and came face to face with her twin brother Conner. She rolled her eyes at him and crossed her arms.
"It's too early in the morning for games, Con." She said kind of irritatedly.
Conner flashed her his famous utterly charming grin and settled down by the kitchen table.
"Is that anyway to treat your OLDER brother?" He asked with a smirk.
"You're older by 5 minutes. Get over it." Alyssa replied.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning!" Conner looked at her with an amused grin. Alyssa ignored the grin and kept biting into her apple.
"Aren't you going to ask why you and I are home alone?" Conner prodded.
"Well now that you mention it.. Where is everyone?"
"Dad and Kyra went out around 9. Dunno where. Brook's over at that little dude's house. Teddy I think? The number's on the counter over ther. So that just leaves you and me.. together.. alone.. and nobody's watching." Conner waggled his eyebrows at her and grabbed for her waist, attempting to pull her into his lap.
"You're such a doofus!" Alyssa cried as she squirmed out of his grasp. She stalked up towards the stairs. "I'll be in my room!"
Conner reached out and grabbed her wrist quickly, pulling her back into the kitchen.
"I forgot to tell you. Brian and some blond dude stopped by about an hour ago looking for you. I said I'd send you over when you woke up."
Alyssa granted him a half smile and muttered 'thank you' before she bounded up the stairs, two at a time.
She bounced into her room and quickly shut and locked the door behind her. She stared into the mirror and started to get dressed. She stared into the closet for a second and finally pulled out a long sleeved grey shirt and a short sleeved blue and green plaid button down shirt.
She grabbed her all-time favourite pair of jeans, the baggy Gasoline ones and put them on. She reached into her jewlery box and pulled out a silver dolphin pendant. She stared at it for a second, remember the day she got it before fastening it around her neck. To complete the touch she put on a silver beaded bracelet and her silver G-Shock watch. She nodded with satisfaction as she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror.
Alyssa walked into the bathroom and pulled out some makeup. She pulled the elastic out of her hair and let it fall loose over her shoulders. She applied some light blue eyeshow, mascara to her eyes and some frosted brown lipstick covered in lip gloss to her lips. She brushed her hair one last time and flicked it over her shoulders as she bounded downstairs, socks and sweater in hand.
Alyssa went down into the basement to find Conner and found him drumming away on his guitar like he usually did on the weekends. Conner was actually quite reserved and quiet and prefered to be alone. He had few pals at school and to be honest with herself, Alyssa admitted that he probably prefered it that way. Alyssa herself had only one or two close friends but she seemed to be well recieved by the general student body.
"Conner?" She asked softly, hoping to get his attention.
Conner looked up in surprise.
"Oh hi, I didn't see you there." He said.
"Yea I figured as much. I just wanted to let you know that I'm off to Brian's okay?"
"Go ahead and have fun, Lyss. I'll call you when Dad gets home if that's alright by you."
"Please do. I don't want Dad to freak like last night."
"Speaking of last night, he was mighty pissed that you never came downstairs."
"I know, I'm sorry. I just fell asleep."
"Try telling him that." Conner gave her a pointed look and Alyssa smiled at him.. She walked over and gave him a quick hug. Conner wasn't one for affection but he looked as though he could use a hug about now. Alyssa and Conner may have argued most of their lives but they were twins and they did share a closeness that many people didn't comprehend.
Alyssa jogged upstairs and sat on the floor as she pulled on her socks and her blue and silver Sketcher running shoes. She pulled on her gray sweater and headed out the door.
"BYE CONNER!!!!!!" she yelled, hoping that he'd hear her over his guitar playing.
Alyssa stepped outside and was glad to discover that it was abnormally warm out. Not that she was complaining.
She walked briskling over her property and crossed over onto Brian's. She started to jog once she finally saw the front stoop of his house and reached the door a mere minute later. She waited a second to catch her breath before knocking loudly on the door.
She heard a bit of a commotion, two guys laughing and some hurried footsteps. All was silent for another couple of seconds and finally she heard soft footsteps approaching the door. Brian opened the door partway and grinned at her.
Alyssa took in his light blue jeans, simple white t-shirt and his gorgeous tousled locks. True, Brian may not be the guy in the portrait. Her ideal guy, but by her standards he was as good. He had one major bonus point anyway. He existed, the guy in the portrait didn't.
"Lyss, Girly-Girl! I've been expecting you! You must have overslept because you definitely look well-rested. Actually you look great. Come on in."
Brian stepped back and opened up the door all the way to let Alyssa inside. Alyssa smiled and followed him through the house and into the living room. Her mouth fell open as she stared inside the room. Usually as neat as a hospital room the place was a complete disaster.
"A little insight into why we call him Chaos!" Brian said with a playful grin. Alyssa continued to stare and shook her head.
"Nick by the way, Aka Chaos, is upstairs washing up and getting changed. He wants to look pretty for you." Brian started to laugh and Alyssa blushed. She stepped by, ignoring his pointed looks and into the kitchen.
"I hope you don't mind. I missed lunch." She called as she rummaged through his cupboards and his refridgerator.
"Help yourself!" Brian called back.
"I did," Alyssa said as she walked back into the living room with a box of crackers in her hand. She flopped down beside Brian on the floor in front of the television and popped a couple of crackers into her mouth.
"Where's your friend?"
"You mean Nick?"
"No Brian, I meant Zac Hanson. Yes Nick! Where is he?"
"Very funny. He should be down anytime now."
Alyssa munched on some more crackers and stared at the images on TV. It wasn't long before she was completely engrossed by the soap opera that was playing. So engrossed in fact that Alyssa didn't even notice the heavy footsteps as Nick came pounding downstairs.
Realizing that Alyssa didn't know he was there, Nick bent down and spoke softly into her ear.
"Let me guess. Your name is Angel isn't it?"
Brian gave Nick a strange look and started to laugh. Nick shot him a glare and continued on.
"My name's Nick. That was a joke by the way. You are..?"
Alyssa was entranced by his soft voice and southern accent.
"I'm Alys.." she started to reply as she turned around. She gasped softly and her eyes went wide.
Standing over he was a very handsome man, about 6'1" in height with not-short, not-long rich blond hair and light blue eyes. He was about the right size and was nicely built.
Alyssa brought her hands to her face in complete and utter shock.
Standing over her was the real life version of her portrait. Detail for detail, her portrait had indeed come to life.
