I walked into my apartment, throwing my leather jacket on to the couch and my keys on the coffee table. I ran my fingers through my hair and began pacing.
Tonight, I had seen something horrible.
Something that even my adult video library couldn't prepare me for.
I burst into Scully's apartment and saw Eddie Van Blundht's lips not even a millimetre away from hers.
Now I know how Scully must have felt when she walked in on me and Detective White.
It's this horrible, sinking feeling when you are present while the one you love is staring into the eyes of another.
Birds do it, bees do it, even educated M.D.s do it, I reminded myself.
I love her.
I thought she loved me.
Even if she didn't, how could she like Eddie Van Blundht? He was our latest case subject! The man was a nut, an alien, and a rapist! I mean, come on. Dana Van Blundht? I don't think so.
I paced around my apartment for an hour or so, with each step the apartment seeming smaller, like the walls were caving in on me. Then it occurred to me. Even though it was technically Van Blundht that Scully was about to kiss, the man was in my form.
Does that mean that Scully would have let me kiss her? I couldn't help but wonder. It was something I had wondered for four years, and who could blame me? Oh, well, there was no way to find out now. Maybe in another four years she'd kiss me.
The *real* me.
Just then I heard a light knock at the door. I saw a distressed Scully through the peephole, still wearing the same outfit she had been wearing earlier that night during the...incident. I unlatched the door and her lips curled upwards nervously.
"Hi," She said in a quite, monotone voice. "Did I wake you?"
"No," I said, confused for a minute. Then I glanced at my clock which read 3:31 AM.
"May I come in?" Scully asked. The look on her face seemed worried that I might say no. How could I possibly turn away such a beautiful dream as Scully? I nodded.
"Of course." I told her, ushering her in the door and taking her coat. We made our way over to the blue coach and sat down. "What's up?" I asked.
"Mulder, I wanted to apologise for tonight. It's hard to explain but I -"
"No, Scully, you don't have to apologise to me. There's nothing to apologise for."
"But, Mulder, I - I feel terrible about what happened. I'm so sorry."
"Scully, please, don't. It's fine."
"No, it's not, Mulder."
"Just tell me one thing."
"Sure. Anything."
"Um, well, this is going to sound juvenile of me, but if I had been the one sitting next to you, does this mean that you would have kissed me?"
Scully blinked.
Oh, she's gonna start laughing.
Great.
Humiliated in front of the woman I love twice in one night? Can't a guy catch a break?
But Scully didn't laugh.
I guess maybe it wasn't that funny.
Instead, she started towards me, eyes closed, lips guiding her.
Then it happened.
We kissed.
I, Fox Mulder, *kissed* Dana Scully.
Not a little kiss that you give a friend, but a long, exhilarating, breathtaking kiss. It was remarkable. Thrilling. When our lips finally parted, I was speechless, still not able to believe the fact that we had kissed.
Scully left after that, and left me able to sleep like a baby.
No more pondering.
No more wondering if the pretty woman I had worked with for the past four years had feelings about me.
She had answered all the questions in my mind with one blow.
