About the Unit.
This is Duffield Venture Scout Unit's web page . We are from Duffield
near Belper in Derbyshire, England (SEE OUR MAPS). The unit contains about 15 members at the moment and meets
at Duffield Scout HQ at 7:30pm on Sunday evenings.
Venture Scouts is for people between 15 ½ to 20 years old, and you can find out more about Ventures in general from the other sites on the links page. For the moment I really want to keep
this site more about DVSU than Ventures as a whole, because, hey, we're better than the others anyway.
Now for the History Part... Concentrate....
The Unit has been running (with only a couple of gaps) since the 70's, when the Leader was Charles Chesters. Since then Derrick Lodge has been
the leader, and now recently after Derrick went to be a District bloke, Charles Capel has taken over
What We Do...
Basically looking at the programme will give you a good idea of what the unit does. As although there are pages for some of the activities like Climbing, these reflect only those activities
that the Unit does regularly.
Further to this there are other events run at a District or County level, which offers the opprtunity to meet up with other Units on both social and active events, some of these are mentioned,
such as Alton Towers Camp, as this is run by our own District, but there are many others too.
Other Useless things to know...
- Many Venture Units in our area have nicknames such as Viking, Phoenix, Mafeking or Talisman, but we don't and we don't want one so there...
- We are one of three units in Belper District. The other two being Badger and Wyvern.
- The District goes under the name of Genus DVSU, but this time the 'D' is for 'District' not 'Duffield'.
- We ALWAYS have a member of the Unit called John, who has a Land Rover for some reason.
