Some
more stuff about SHF3...
You seem to be pretty interested in the Final Conflict. I can't blame you,
it's a fine game. I hope that you vote for SHF3 at Eidolon's Inn as often
as I do (once a week).
The Story:
I can't read Japanese, so the story may be incomplete. You start in the
port of Hassan and you are ordered to destroy Taros (or a look-a-like).
When you return to Hassan, the villagers are held by an evil woman. You
rescue the villagers, but (I'm not totally sure of this) the woman escapes.
Then you head to Ribble (in pyramid-form) to retrieve her. Further
on, you'll also meet Volcanon, who does help you this time. That's all
I can decipher about the story.
The character above is our main hero. He's a fine fighter and (as usual)
knows the Egress spell. His face is similar to Bowie's (perhaps it is Bowie).
I've put this here to show you that the faces have been drawn with more
care than in SHF2: The Sword of Hayja. Unfortunately, the faces have become
much weirder.
The
mage to the right wears HUGE glasses in its portrait to cover its huge
Anime-style eyes (a very bad combination). The monk in the party actually
looks like a baby and some faces look more like monsters than heroes.
Ok, so the portraits are weird, the animations are pretty good in my opinion.
The characters and monsters are a mix of Shining Force 1 and 2 converted
to 16-color combined with some new pics. As you can see, the result comes
pretty close to Genesis quality.
The gameplay shows similarities with The Sword of Hayja, but has been improved
on some places. There's still no walkabout possibility, but there some
new features now. In the first chapter, you have to battle a Kraken. He's
nearly indefeatable, but if you run past him, the battle ends. There also
secret rooms, which you can only see when one of your characters is standing
on a certain place. There may be more of such things, but I haven't discovered
them yet.
Some tips:
-
Don't neglect your priest.
-
Search well and walk everywhere in combat
-
When a char doesn't get a turn and a message appears, he's either paralyzed
or asleep.
-
If there's something mentioned in the opponent's attack after damage is
done, and your character is not dead, he might be poisoned, paralyzed or
asleep.
-
A message with a 2 in it after a character's turn means that character
is poisoned.
-
It's just trying out which weapon fits which character. The most expensive
ones are often swords and lances while the cheapest ones are often staves.
-
If something costs 10 gold, it's a Medical Herb.
-
If you play the game with an emulator(Massage, that is) and you think the
game is a bit slow, press F1 and change the slowdown til the speed is at
+/- 130%.
-
Using Screenskip to increase speed is only recommended for 386 or 486 computers.
If
you search the ROM, you'll find it pretty soon because it's not hard to
find it. One more thing: When the game gets translated, I'll remove the two existing pages
and make some new pages concerning characters items etc.
