PREMISES
Hooray - we finally moved out of that pokey little room (G12) and are now in a much larger space - Room G33 - at the Griffin Centre in Canberra City. Unfortunately, we are still getting broken into on a regular basis, but all that is ever taken is new syringes. The computer equipment, cheque books etc are not touched. Surely this demonstrates really clearly the need for vending machines that distribute injecting equipment....
RESOURCES
The second edition of CIN CITY NEWS is out now! It is a fantastic resource, with a glossy cover and 28 jam pages of information on things relevant to drug users and keeping safe.
SERVICES
Drop-in services are still available from 10.00am until 12.30 every week day. The office closes between 12.30 and 1pm, and in the afternoons the office is open for needle exchange, information and support etc. This has not been as rigourously adhered to as when we were located in the smaller space, but it still gives staff enough time to get other things done. Outreach sessions to the Northborne Flats have been conducted on a Friday for the last 6 weeks or so. We have been discussing with clients and funding bodies the idea of having an outreach service that is more flexible - ie. one that goes to a different place each week as need arises, rather than one that is in the same place week in, week out. It seems far more sensible to us that we access users in the outer suburbs of Tuggeranong and Belconnen - and we can piggy back our outreach onto programs done by the Hep C Council of the ACT and other simmilar services. NEW COMMITTEE
The New Management Committee have been meeting monthly, with lots of new ideas and topics being discussed. Any CIN member or client is welcome to attend these meetings to put forward their point of view on a particular subject - so come along and see how we operate!
