I was intrigued by the title of a collection of stories by Zsuzsi Gartner:  "All the anxious girls in the world".  As you can imagine, the stories here are based upon the anxieties which are somewhat unique to women.  Here, various women account their stories of the encounters they have had with their world.  This world includes the demands of people and relationships, the predicaments that life brings one into being and just horror stories.
Some of the stories are hilarious.  There is one story about a woman who begins to call in phony bomb threats. It started out as revenge to her ex-boyfriend, trust me, you have to read how that relationship ended.   As she watched people leave the building, she realized how much fun it was and it became habit forming.  She then began to do for the excitement.
Another anxiety is a women who discovers as chasing a man into the wilderness that she loves the big city more.
Another woman gets what many think is the dream job, a film programmer for a Vancouver film festival.  The job has its perks until one of the distraught film producers sets herself on fire on our heroines front door step.  This was bad enough, and then some of the reactions drive her to distraction.
I can't call this a collection of short stories, since some of them are rather long.  Generally speaking, the book was good, although I thought some of the stories were guilty of overkill. I would recommend this weekend read.  Find the book, get out the shade chair, slip, slap and slop and read.

I have received in the mail a compact disc from David Wimble.  He is the leader of the group "Big Meteor".  They have just released their first cd- "Wild River".   David Wimble writes with great passion and depth of meaning.  These are not your basic "Backstreet-Spice Girls" type of song;  each one is filled with meaning and can speak to your soul.  There is a variety of styles, from ballad to rock to country.  Most of the music is acoustic,  so if this is your style, you may be interested in checking out this cd.  My personal favourite was the ballad "Tap on my shoulder".  If you are interested in purchasing, you may go to their web page:  www.bigmeteor.com .  He also has a page with samples, so you can enjoy the music while you wait for your order.  The sample page is:   www.bigmeteor.com/samples.html .  All information regarding pricing is found on the main page.
This is music from the heart.
