Nouns Always Either Singular or Plural!

Subject Following Verb

When the subject of a sentence follows its verb, then one must make sure to have the agreement agree with the subject and not any of the other words after it.

E.g. Here comes the parade is correct, because comes agrees with the parade.

Here come the parade is not correct, because comes agrees with the, and not the parade.

Another important issue regarding when the subject follows the verb is the question of whether were or was should be used. It is not as simple as you may think. There were a happy dog and a sad dog in the next room is actually correct, gramatically, although it would be far easier to deal with by just avoiding the problem altogether. This could be achieved by rephrasing the sentence to something like: E.g. A happy dog and a sad dog were in the next room.
