This is the retyped text of a letter from the mayor of Santa Barbara California offered at my request which I carried and delivered to the World Peace March in 1982 in May when it reached Washington DC on the way to UN.

Reverend Gyoten Yoshida:

May I congratulate you on your arrival in Washington, D.C. after the journey walking all the way from Los Angeles for Nuclear disarmament in support of the United Nations Special Session on Disarmament to be held at your destination in New York on June 7 - July 9, 1982. I extend my thanks to Santa Barbaran Mary Jane Bagwell for her efforts in taking you all across the continent safely.

I understand that the founder of your Nipponzan Myohoji order, the most venerable Nichidatsu Fujii, will be heading a one thousand member Japanese delegation to this U.N. assembly and that he may be coming to Santa Barbara in the last week of June to inspect a Peace Pagoda site here.

If this visit does occur, I will be honored to present the most venerable Fujii with a certificate of recognition for his lifelong activities for the cause of peace.

Sincerely,

[signed]

Sheila Lodge
