NWR at WRS meeting November
2002
This was my second meeting to the WRS launch site. Many more rocketeers were
flying this time and the sky was good and calm. I arrived, late yes, but
I did get there!
I had been phoning Sean all day but no answer..INstead only myself and my
son David turned up. We only had four flights but these were completed in
around an hour and all recovered undamaged...
Richard had a small plastic object in his hand that looked VERY familiar
to a design that Sean and I had been working on for Largs but never completed.
It was a UFO type rocket from the 70's TV series. Richards was simple and
small but it flew VERY well.!!! It has lots of potential and proves that
the design will work.....watch this space..!!
There were many flights in the short time I was there and many interesting
ones too. The monocopter on a D12 was VERY good and the best I had seen to
date. It had a nice areofoil section and rotated and 'floated' at apogee
for quite a while. There was an impressive flight by a Bloodhound on
a core E composite quick matching to 4 Estes C outboards (I think). Nice
flight. I missed most of the other flights and have no info, but the WRS
site UI am sure will have lots more info and pics.
My son David flew his 'old reliable' Tidal wave on a C6-5 and his Tracer
also on a C6-5. Both these came back close to the pad using streamer recovery.
I flew my 'Roll control' rocket with the roll control turned off (battery
was dead!). First on a G38 4J econojet and second on a G80 4T. The G80 was
way more impressive and louder than the econojet, even though the ejection
was WAY shorter than 4 seconds...built proof construction saved the rocket!
