Overview:
The venerable Tanara was never considered a fully functional design, created
solely as a test platform for the first Storm Phoenix-produced gauss rifles.
Ten of the Mechs originally dubbed simply the 'Gausser' were produced and
went through extensive testing with the central military. Satisfied
with the performance of the gauss rifles, the Phoenix Council elected to
give the Mechs to House Wakareji, whose military style they fit best.
The Wakareji--and later the Naraku--made and continue to make excellent
use of these easy-to-maintain Mechs, which were renamed after the first
one was destroyed to honor its pilot, Tanara Gisei.
Capabilities:
The Tanara carries only two weapons, a massive gauss rifle in each arm.
The lack of backup weapons was not considered problematic because of the
Mech's original purpose, although designers were careful to add a generous
supply of ammunition to increase the Tanara's longevity when the Mech was
finished testing and entered combat. Because of its weapons selection,
the Tanara runs extremely cool, making it popular with pilots. While
not especially fast, the Tanara's 86 kph is considered a reasonable pace
for its size.
Because it was meant to be constructed quickly, the Tanara has a relatively
simple chassis, and this makes it easy to do repairs and maintanence work.
It is possibly the most durable Mech in the Storm Phoenix arsenal, and
these Mechs have been known to be literally reconstructed from the ground
up.
Deployment:
It is telling of the Tanara's performance that of the 10 which were produced,
7 still exist, 2 in the Naraku home guard and 5 in the New Tokyo Sweeper
Regiment.
