Overview:
After House Mizuno's adaptation of the Elemental armor into the Meerkat,
few among the Combine had any interest in continuing a battle armor program.
The primary Storm Phoenix infantry force remained unarmored, and in the
mobility-obsessed Combine this was seen as a very good thing, as Meerkat
warriors were not bred for their task and thus did not have quite the grace
or agility of Elementals. The Mizuno noted this failing but, rather than
seeing it as an argument against battle armor, simply decided they needed
to do better. Nearly a decade of work went into the Snow Flame's top secret
development, and its first deployment shocked the Combine.
Capabilities:
It is difficult to call the Snow Flame a true body armor in good conscience.
The basis for the armor is a ballistic cloth jumpsuit, (similar to the
sneaksuits of the Draconis Combine's elite commandos, among others), with
metal plates and equipment attached to the cloth. The cloth itself
is two layers with wiring in between. Altogether, the armor offers
only negligable protection against all but small arms fire, but the maneuverability
is almost that of an unarmored trooper and the suit's enhanced strength
does allow the use of heavier weapons. The Snow Flame's weaponry consists
of a single SRM launcher with two reloads, and when the ammunition runs
out the aptly-named armor has its flamer to fall back on. The suit also
carries a light TAG spotting laser, though this particular piece of equipment
was not included in the original designs. The Snow Flame's speed is good
for battle armor, but the lack of jump capability will ensure that the
Snow Flame never becomes a truly mainstream armor.
Deployment:
The Snow Flame is almost exclusively a Mizuno design, although the base
'chassis' has sparked considerable interest among other Houses, and in
fact has become the standard armor build for the Storm Phoenix Combine.
