Overview:
Though the Storm Phoenix Combine's Carillon OmniMech has always been revered
as a great raiding design, the versitile 'Mech contains several weaknesses.
In order for its incredible manueverability to be acheived, nearly all
armor was taken from the knee actuators. Despite the difficulty involved
in hitting these targets, Phoenix forces were losing many to lucky actuator
hits. The Carillon is also a bit slow for a raider, topping out at
an unimpressive 97 kph, with only mediocre jump capability in most configurations.
Tai-shu Koryu Kurita finally called for a new light Battlemech. Specifying
that it should be faster, lighter, and with maximum jump capacity, he awaited
the response of the Houses. House Brush answered his request with
the Kyoka.
Capabilities:
The Kyoka is fast and versatile, with near-maximum jump capacity and a
reasonable armament. Not mearly as manueverable as the Carillon,
the Kyoka's improved speed is considered enough to make up for this failing.
The Kyoka also carreis an advanced electronics package containing both
an ECM suite and active probe, making it useful as a scout although it
is rarely used in such a role.
A signal failing of the Kyoka is heat. While it carries enough heat
sinks to fire all of its weapons and jump without overheating, the placement
of the lasers often causes heat to flood the cockpit when they are fired.
A careful pilot can keep this problem under control, but less experienced
Mechwarriors will often try to get away with simply not using the lasers,
not a wise move at all.
Deployment:
The Kyoka is used widely in front-line regiments and raiding units, and
some are also found in the Sweeper Regiments.
Other Notes
The Kyoka's insectoid appearance has earned it the name War Scarab among
the Clans, as they do not know the proper name.
