Overview:
A very new design, the Hades Fox is the first and probably last attempt
of the Storm Phoenix Combine to produce an OmniMech combining Inner Sphere
and Clan technology. After acquiring the Inner Sphere's new Thunderbolt
missiles, the Phoenixes needed a test platform. The faction's Inner
Sphere front, Firebird Industries, obliged the SPCM's request for assistance,
and sent the plans and prototype chassis for the Hades Hawk, an OmniMech
design scrapped soon into the project, to Shadow. Designers added
the Thunderbolt missiles as well as an array of Clan-technology weaponry,
and the prototype Hades Fox was tested.
After encouraging tests, it was decided that it would be a shame to waste
the OmniMech technology which had come with the chassis, so several more
variants were created, including another with Thunderbolt missiles. After
testing proved each configuration acceptable, the Hades Fox began production.
Capabilities:
The Hades Hawk was designed to be jump capable, with speed matching that
of the Clan Mad Cat and all the armor the chassis could handle. A variable
range targeting system was also included. The designers saw no reason
to change any of this for the Hades Fox.
The primary variant of the Hades Fox carries the missiles for which the
mech was created, and a good array of Clan-technology weapons to back them
up. A pair of Thunderbolt 5 launchers and two extended-range large lasers
make up the long range arsenal, while a pair of extended-range pulse lasers
and a medium SRM system make up its short range power. Pilots are warned
that heat buildup can become severe very quickly.
The A variant is geared towards city fighting. Four micro lasers provide
anti-infantry firepower, while the larger lasers underslung on the arms
and torso make up the bulk of its anti-Mech punch. Thunderbolt 10 launchers
on each arm give it good long-range capacity if needed.
The B variant is known as Hell on Legs, referring more to its cockpit during
a battle than to its impressive offensive capability. The PPCs give god
long-range striking power, while at short range its heavy laser assortment
is capable of ripping another 'Mech apart in seconds.
The C variant's heavy lasers and pulse lasers ensure a tough medium-range
fight, but at long range it is all but helpless. This variant is
not very popular.
The D variant is a fire support 'Mech in the truest sense. LRMs and a pair
of light autocannon provide good long range fire, but at close range its
four micro lasers are not quite what would be called a formidable deterrent.
This variant does not, however, have the heat problems inherent in other
configurations, and is a favorite among pilots.
The E variant is new and still undergoing testing, but like the D variant
is suited for fire support, sporting light autocannon as its main weaponry
and only a few lasers for backup.
Deployment:
A handful of Hades Foxes are in the Shadow Striker and Sweeper Regiments,
and several have made their way to House home guards.
Other notes:
Lacking knowledge of the correct names, the Clans refer to the Hades Fox
as the Dissident.
