Overview:
Based largely on the Star League's Thunder Hawk design, the Clash Hawk
is an older BattleMech which is often found serving as defense for the
most critical Sorm Phoenix sites. Slow and powerful, the Clash Hawk is
capable of destroying light and medium targets in a single volley of its
extreme-range weaponry.
Capabilities:
The Clash Hawk is a truly terrifying Mech. Three gauss rifles--as
in its parent Thunder Hawk design--generate almost no heat whatsoever,
and the single extended-range PPC is not quite enough to tax the Clash
Hawk's double-strength heat sinks. Designed with extended operations
in mind, the Clash Hawk carries seven tons of ammunition for its gauss
rifles. This was not enough for the Storm Phoenixes however, and
the jump jets originally slated for the design were scrapped to make room
for a targeting computer, giving the Clash Hawk incredible accuracy (and,
as a side effect, conserving ammunition).
Not nearly as fast as most Storm Phoenix 100-ton Mechs, the Clash Hawk
was designed to coax all the agility possible from the chassis. The
Mech's resulting slender design makes it look lighter than it really is,
and its appearence is not especially fearsome. Many enemies of Storm
Phoenixes wielding this design have fatally underestimated its capabilities.
Deployment:
Most Clash Hawks are scattered through the Striker Regiments, concentrated
mostly in House Naraku and House Tenno. Only House Ryan fields none
of these Mechs, preferring to use their Denizen design for fire support.
The Sirga Striker Regiment also fields a large amount of Clash Hawks to
defend the planet's agricultural sites.
