Part of being a reference librarian is answering telephone questions. Some of the questions are quite amusing.
One of my favorites was when a woman called and asked, "If I leave my house at 10:00, how long will it take me to get to the library?"
Another woman called to find out what the weather is like
in California.
Me: What city in California?
Her: No particular city. The whole state.
Me: The weather in San Francisco will be much different than in San Diego.
I have to look up the weather by city.
Her: OK. Santa Barbara.
I looked up the weather in Santa Barbara at www.weather.com and told her what
the weather was like there. Her response, "How can you possibly know
that? You aren't in California! Are you?"
