This stock of Feist that we raise, train, hunt and campaign are from a local stock that my best friend, the late Red Taylor, began developing back around 1981.It all began with a little white and red spotted female Feist puppy that Red found one morning on his front porch. The town near where Red lived, Sallisaw, Oklahoma, instituted a leash law in 1981, whereby all dogs had to be chained or penned up and licensed. Some folks, rather than comply, simply didn't abide by the new law or dumped their dogs on someone out in the country. Of course no one ever claimed the little female puppy and Red raised her up and trained her as his squirrel dog. Red named the little puppy Bell and Red was killing squirrels with her alone before she was even a year old. Red said that she was one of the best young dogs that he ever owned. She was the foundation dog of Red's stock of Feist squirrel dogs. She only produced one litter of puppies before she was run over by a neighbor's truck and killed, but that one litter produced several real good little country squirrel dogs., including the one Red kept, Taylor's Ann.
