FRCD 4793:The Family: A World Perspective
This course was truly exciting to me. Here the students learned about different cultures and beliefs around the world as well as differences right here in the United States.
Course Objectives
- Demonstrate an understanding of one's own cultural background (family origin, ethnic traditions, religion, language, family patterns, economic status, racial characteristics, political involvement, etc.);
- Describe the demogrpahic characteristics of selected ethnic groups
- Explain the geographic origins of selected ethnic groups
- Identify and discuss the strengths that rae found in diversity
- Identify and discuss sources of tension between diverse cultural groups
- Describe a culturally competent program
- Explain barriers to effective implementation of multi-cultural education
- Demonstrate professional standards in the use of terminology relating to diversity; i.e., define terminology used in ethnically sensitive pratice
- Creatively apply principles from text and class to classrooms for young children
- Participate in an early childhood setting that reflects diversity
