What's FTP

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is simply transferring the files i.e. web pages, graphics, audio files, shockwave flash etc from your PC to the remote web or file server.

Once it is on the server, you can access them anywhere simply by pointing to the web address via a browser.

 


WS_FTP is a simple and easy to use Window-based FTP client. And it's free! This is a simple tutorial to get you into the going with WS_FTP. If you don't have it, click here to download a copy or visit the download site at http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm and install it in your computer.

Click the shortcut on the desktop to start WS_FTP or
choose Start >> Programs >> Ws_ftp and choose WS_FTP95 LE.

In the Session Properties window, you will put in the settings to connect to the FTP Server.

a) Click New to create a new Profile and type a desired name in Profile Name

b) Host Name: ftp.angelfire.com

c) Host Type: Automatic Detect

d) User ID: from your angelfire registration i.e.
/blues2/webclassdemo

 

e) Password: type in your password and click Save Pwd.

f) Click Apply and OK to connect

a) Local System: Files in your computer

b) Locate your files and folder: Use to go up one level or double click on the folder to access

c) Remote System: Files in the Server

d) Locate your destination: Use to go up one level or double click on the folder to access

e) Put: Select the files in the Local System window and use the Put button (circle in red) to transfer the files to the destination. Likewise the Get button is to transfer files from the Remote System to your local computer.

a) Click Close when transfer is completed

b) After a period of inactivity, the connection closes itself automatically. Click Connect to reconnect again.
