Seventh Day Adventists

The group known as Seventh Day Adventists was founded by Ellen G. White as an outgrowth of the Millerite movement which was based upon the teachings of Baptist preacher William Miller who believed that Christ would come for the saints in the year 1844. This group presents a bit a a dilemma for many apologists since many are divided as to whether or not the SDA should be regarded as a cult. To be sure, the SDA do adhere to most of the essentials of the faith, but have added their own peculiar, aberrant doctrines, primarily the insistence upon observance of the seventh day sabbath which have caused them considerable problems in mainstream circles. There is also the problem of whether or not they officially regard Ellen White's writings as "inspired of God" and on par with the Bible. Officially, the group's headquarters denies this position, but unofficially, many SDA Pastors have lost their jobs for not teaching that Ellen White's writings are inspired and on par with the Bible. For more information on this group, see the articles below.
